Age of Conan, recent interview with Game Director

Age of Conan interview

New Demo

Looks promising if they get all those features they mention into the game.

One of the cool features they are supposedly adding, Drunken Brawling, thats some cool little side game.
Quote:
Drunken brawling is automatically switched on in bars / festivals etc when:
a) you enter such a place
b) you buy and drink an alcoholic beverage

Then, you can no longer fight with your normal abilities, spells, levels, skills etc. All normal RPG rules are totally thrown out the window, as you toss those drinks down. You are yourself, alone with your wits (or lack thereof) and a barstool in both hands. A level 1 is as powerful in drunken brawling mode as a level 80.

You swing, score and reduce the consciousness of the opponent. Drinking a lot might make you less conscious, but then again, you might chose to disregard any puny glass bottles broken over your head. How much, how fast and what you drink make you fine-tune that drunkenness. During this stupor, you actually get access to other special moves that are not available in normal combat, like nasty head butts, haymakers and so on.

If you drink the right type of beverage, you might get something called "bliss" that will reduce all damage done to you. You might also "sway" a lot more, making you harder to hit. But your "focus" and "brawling" skill might go down, along with your ability to hit. You fight, kick, brawl and pass out. It is all part of the normal life in a Hyborian bar or inn.

Perhaps a barmaid or waiter might reward you for your efforts? Who knows?

haha drunken brawling sounds pretty kickass, i might buy it just for that if they offer a 10-day free trial or something like that

What an amazing humourous concept. I'm willing to give the game a shot just from hearing this idea too. Done correctly, I could probably have more fun doing that then the main game. Reminds me of when a lot of people signed on CoH just to have fun with the character creation, just because of how entertaining the combinations could be.

If Conan is smart, they'll go for the M for Mature. I remember Cryptic tried to get an E for COH originally, then they finally realized the market isnt a bunch of 10 year olds and went for the T ;p

When you think about it, a 'mature' MMO really hasnt been made yet.

An M mmo might be whats needed with the bnet crowd now. The drunk minigame sounds shweet too. I'm pretty interested in the classes, how you specialize every 20 levels or so, which could be really cool.

I also like what I'm hearing about Conan - unless it turns out to suck when people get to play it in beta, I'll probably pick it up and try it.

Hopefully it won't launch as poorly as Funcom's other MMO - Anarchy Online. I was there at launch. What a joke - disconnects every 20 seconds for the first two months!

One trader said something like 'wtf do you want? bruce willis on a meteorite? This is what market bottoms are made off', he pretty much bought the low. His nickname was digits for a while, coz his account was growing by them monthly.
