+3 Internets | No smokeywood pastures :( All year I've been craving the tangy summer sausage and bright-colored candies of my beloved Smokeywood Pastures. I logged in today expecting to see bright wreathes and to be able to scurry over to my local Smokeywood Pastures retail outlet and purchase gobs of candycanes, snowballs, and holiday spices only to be greeted with the same drab old Ironforge I saw yesterday ![]() (did someone not push the "activate holiday_mode" button?) |

| I hear they're going to do an emergency patch that will activate the holiday content which will cause 18 hours of downtime and for 24 hours after that the login servers won't work right and it'll take you 27 tries of 10 minutes each to get logged in. |

| I remember x-mas last year in old Ironforge. Happily perched with my horse out on top of the stand that had been setup right outside of the bank and rather drunk on eggnog. I also fondly remember every bastard in IF was throwing snowballs at me. I wonder if they'll do the same things this year. Ahh, good times. |

| When the first Xmas event happened, and not everyone was quite 60, or still relatively new to the game, I used about 2 bags full of snowballs griefing my party during pulls. Ever chain snowball lock your paladin friend trying to run from 3 mobs? Divine Shield couldn't even stop the machine gunning. It was amazing. |

Anyways. I need to dig out the video of me landing in Tanaris, and then ~1 minute later getting pelted with 14 snowballs that had been launched from Orgrimmar. Depending on how bored I get, going to try to fly a circuit long enough to circle around and catch the snowball from behind. 8(

Although when we posted a recent "guild first" screenshot, I was in snowman form. You'd be suprised how many tells I got from people asking how I managed it.

| Holiday flavor and flair is a favorite subject of mine in MMO's. It blows me away that some MMO's don't even bother at all. Ever since EQ1 had a fat Rubicite Troll hand out cookies and milk it's something I expect in an MMO. But last year I was really blown away by WoW's, it was the best I had participated in, in any MMO to date. FFXI a distant second. It's about more than just snow and decorations about town, it's about building community. Both FFXI and WoW did a fantastic job with the towns, fireworks, etc... And this year EQ2 added a Haunted House with it's own "7th Guest" type storyline, and that was nice too. But the quests, wrapping-paper, and above all else Snowballs really made participation key and as a result was the one moment I felt real community interaction on a nearly global scale in that game. It's so easy to just flip the "On" switch and reuse last years content, hell it was great. So, it's a nice surprise to see... Quote:
Nice to see that kind of effort. I'll definitely be checking it out.

| I got the winter's rage enchant, or whatever it was called. +frost damage to 2 handers I think. The random gift item was a good idea. The horde x-mas stuff seemed kinda gimpy in comparison though. |
