+9 Internets | Communication Breakdown! (nothing to do with dev comm.) Three things I want to bring up: 1: Cross-faction communication 2: Cross-server chat channels 3: Chat channel functionality Cross-faction communication Honestly, this has what to do with the lore? It's not even consistent within the game. So no Horde PCs can communicate with Alliance PCs, but some dip human in wetlands can speak perfect orcish? Any Night Elf or Human or Gnome or Dwarf anywhere in Azeroth can communicate with me, a Tauren, but there isn't one single playing member of the opposite faction who can speak a single word understandable by me. I know it's been brought up before, but while I have other gripes, I thought I'd raise the issue again. What is it meant to accomplish? Is it supposed to stop cross-teaming? Gee, got a second account? Is it supposed to stop trash-talking? Gee, got a second account or the time to log off your main and hop over to an alt on the other side (you can still do this on PvE servers last I checked)? So, the only people who can cross-team or trash-talk are people with alternate accounts. That makes super duper sense. Why don't you just have the banstick ready at hand for crossteamers and let people talk to the other faction. At least bringing back the Undead link would be cool, although again conflicting with evidence to the contrary within the game itself, I actually liked it. All it does is limit the people who can do these things to the harder-of-core, and little timmy, whose feelings it's meant to protect, can't return in kind. Cross-server chat channels Simple request, see above logic for any arguments against them I can think of. I know your servers can still suck some times, but this isn't all that much to ask I don't think. Chat channel functionality This is a major gripe of mine. First, you wanted to stop people from linking shit in general channel, so you nerfed item linking in general. You took every goddamned channel down with them. I found this irritating six months ago, and as I use three times as many channels now as I did then, much more so now. Among said channels are a couple of 'private' channels. Yes 'private.' Except for the fact that you cannot retain ownership of them, you cannot retain moderator status in them, the best you can do is set a password you must use EVERY TIME YOU LOG IN, and watch the old 'hand moderation to the last person left online' trick every fucking time. I have experimented with the functions listed and no matter what I do, I cannot make a channel *mine* and secure it and moderate it as I see fit, at least past the point that I log off. This is a major annoyance and I'm sure you could pull one of the programmers out of the space under the stairs and have them work on it. That is all, thanks. |

| Why they cant just copy EQs chat channel functionality (with or without cross server) is beyond me. Probably the same person is in charge of both chat implementation and their forum implementation. Prime example of failing to learn from your predecessors. This is amateur stuff. |

| The items in chat were originally stolen from Anarchy Online though I think SOE did a dandy job with the chat servers. (boy... now if they licenced that to Blizzard that would be hilarious...) Quote:

Anyhow, I can tell you this really doesn't have much to do with lore. In Warcraft 3, there were a few instances of footmen or archers speaking orcish or grunts speaking common. | |

| I still hate that my human character died and was raised from the dead to become undead and forgot my langauge and learned a new one instantly without forgetting the rest of my past life. For some reason I can still read the signs/plaques written in Common though. Much better in Beta. It is horrible that older games had languages fully fleshed out and newer ones don't have much of anything. |
