| And that means what when talking about opinions on a new game? True but I said there won't be as MANY. Quote:
See I said they can cut out a huge part, not all mind you, of the people I was talking about. Last edited by Camerous : 06-20-2005 at 09:40 AM.

WoW has 2 million subscribers, maybe 1.8 million are morons. EQ had 500k subscribers, maybe 450k are morons. Either way, 90% of your playerbase is made up of idiots. Those idiots are going to bitch, whine and complain on whatever forum they have access to.

+33 Internets | There will be just as many retards and whiners in Vanguard. Assuming there won't be, or that there will be some kind of magical measures in place to shut them up, is pretty obtuse.

+1 Internets | Anyone who says "i've been playing since xxx" automatically loses any respect I had for them, and gets dropped into the retard bin. The best players are those who are fast, smart, and clever. Period. And because someone's gonna say i'm jealous or something, I've been around since orriginal, too. I am a retard for saying that. Look what you've done. Thanks. |

+1 Internets | Why does everyone assume that the retards can't grind? If you make advancement as simple as "pull mob, kill mob", do you really think there are people who can't grasp that? The only thing that seperates people who are willing to grind from the others, is that they're a little more dedicated, and/or have more time onhand during the evening/day. Grinding has always been simplistic. |

+4 Internets | This is a bit off-topic but I think it has relevence when we are comparing our past experiences. Hate it or not, I think when you started AND how you played has a big impact on your outlook on these games. People who come from different backgrounds tend to use the same words but talk about VASTLY different things. For example.. Original EQ.. no corpse summon, no corpse drag. Perhaps 18 people per server had the experience of knowing that if they died in the dungeon that was it, no one could save them. Then there was the group of people for whom death would be severe, but they could get help. Then there was the group of people for whom death meant running back down to their corpse through a heavily camped zone. All 3 groups can, with justification talk about the "EQ Death Penalty". They would be really talking about 3 different things though. And some VERY good players started in phase 3 without a chance to experience the first phase. Same thing with raiding. I'm sure a lot of people have been in guilds where they thought the GL was figuing things out, but in reality he got the l33t infoz through the grapevine. Hell, the infamous development boards during PoP is a great story there. AL members probably didn't have a clue the leadership all had access to the beta boards. That's one of the things that is so maddening about having a board discussion.

+7 Internets | One thing I am concerned about in VG is how PVP will end up. I never thought I would say that, but WoW has really gotten me into PVP and I never liked it at all (anyone else?). Consentual PVP of course like the BGs. Hitting that Execute button on a real player is infinitely more rewarding than on any mob. Having the option to Raid and PVP as in WoW is certainly nice. Quote:

+60 Internets | The only thing EQ 'hardcore' did was make resiliant and dedicated morons. Making a game hard or challenging won't make an idiot the epicenter of creativity and genius. It'll just make them harder to get rid of. In WoW they at least get bored and quit. If I had to choose between the two...well, there's a reason I traded my EQ account for a stack of summoned water. |

And don't forget summon corpse was created pre-Kunark as well, initially as a means of getting a corpse out of Nag/Vox's room without having to gather an entire raid. The only difference is it wasnt as largely used then, and it wasnt until Plane of Sky that it became a required mechanic.
