WoW Immersion

Two things I would love to see happen to WoW that would improve gameplay and immersion imo.

1) True lighting effects - some difference between night and day would add to not only immersion but also provide for more interesting gameplay and pvp.

2) Weather effects - sandstorms, rain, blizzards, smoke, etc that effect how far you can see at least for starters.

Hopefully, Vanguard will have these and maybe even expand on them as more than just graphic effects. Ie. corrosion of armor, to-hit rates, spell lines and fizzles.

sometimes i wonder if people are playing the same game that I am.

with the quests that have been broken since release, the unfinished content, and every other problem that has been beaten to death ad nausem... you have THIS to complain about?

I wish that when in first person you could see your weapons swinging.

Only gripe with the game at lvl 46.

That other horse has been beaten to death, spirit rezzed with feelings of guilt for no real death penalty; then beaten to death again.

The horse is still level 60 and bored of Molten Core.

Honestly, I could care less about the handful of items I'm not able to get due to broken quest lines. Something will always be broke.

I could care less about the handful of items I will get when new content is added.

The games number one flaw is lack of immersion - be it through the gameplay (because its too damn easy) or community (because its populated by whiny retards). So i suggested something I'd like to see (that should have been done from the get go) that would have at least made the gameplay more immersive. The community is a lost cause as far as I'm concerned.

After the first couple of weeks in WoW, not a single thing made my heart skip or offered much excitement like even some simple things in EQ use to do (like solo-breaking efreeti with my monk before 'pop'flation). There was no great sense of accomplishment in defeating a single foe or completing a single quest.

Ultimately it is the immersiveness and community that keeps your playerbase, not bugfix01 or deadmines version 3.0.

Don't care about the lack of nightblindness. Typically in EQ that meant you either a) jacked up gamma or b) got a freaking ultravision item. That effect was starting to be put on stuff like sprinkles, if I recall correctly.

Now weather is something that I do miss. I don't know why WoW never bothered with it, but I know in CoH Statesman has said that's pretty much on their "yeah, we'll do it when we don't have anything better to do" pile. A little bit of fog or rain goes a long way, sometimes.

You have either never lvled up on a pvp server or you are one stone cold motherfucka'. One of the most exciting video game events ever has been getting ganked (while playing my rogue) by a paladin 5 lvls higher than me, and beating him. Most intense 5 minutes of my life.

I've missed weather in virtually every game I've played since Mechwarrior. Far too rare.

My very first character was a hunter on a US PvP server. I got him to 45 then leveled a priest to 60. It was certainly more exciting than the normal day-to-day game.

Since release in the EU, I've moved to a PvE guild of old friends that migrated from EQ. Ive leveled a druid to 60, a paladin to 45 and damn near every other class to 20-30ish.

Can't help but feel that the current PvP is nothing more than counterstrike with swords tho and that honestly wasn't what I was looking for WoW to be.

It does get dark at night, just not to the point where you can't see shit like in EQ. I agree though, it would be nice to get some weather effects.

It rained all the time in EQ. Sometimes it felt like it would never stop. And the thunder, dear god the thunder.

Lately I've been trying to approach games as a purist, and it's nothing but frustration. Not that I'm surprised.

I wish newer games had playable first person views, that's one of my biggest gripes. In WoW you can't look directly above or below you, and your character isn't rendered as you're in combat. In EQ2 it's even worse, first person mode is almost completely impossible to play in. It seems like every mob isn't content with standing in front of your character, they need to be INSIDE you. There's also a really nifty option you can toggle on, I like to refer to it as the "barf-o-matic". In reality it's called something like "Enable Character Motion in 1st Person"; it's supposed to simulate the movements you would experience if you were actually fighting as your character, but it looks more like you're in a car going 90mph over a road full of speed bumps.

Strangely enough, the game that I thought would be the worst in first person is actually the best out of all the more recent games to be released; CoH. You have a good amount of view freedom, feedback, and responsiveness, although you never see your character swing a weapon or their hands as they fire a bolt of fire/ice/lightning whatever. Still though, it operates fairly smoothly and can make for a pretty hair raising experience when you stay in 1st person while going up against 50 enemies.

Imagine if lighting actually was a factor tho. All those pretty enchanted weapons would actually serve a purpose.

Tracking for hunters would be useful as the range of tracking would extend beyond your vision.

Travelling at night and suddenly seeing the flash of a spell as it curls on a casters hands and that ball of fire coming at that poor rogue.

Or running down a fleeing pasty face caster in a sandstorm and out of the dust you come face to face with his 15 other friends.

Immersion is everything - that would be exciting.
