| Diablo 2, Diablo 3... I can imagine what some of you might want to say just by reading the title, but I feel certain the the vast majority of people on this board at least played Diablo 2 and remotely liked it. Regardless, I feel like typing this so here it is. I was getting bored with WoW again and while I like Guild Wars, I don't feel like playing it all day or even a few hours straight. My gf is still playing EQ1 and raiding stuff, but I have no intentions of ever, ever playing that game again. Same goes for EQ2...not gonna do it. Playing the other mmo's isn't even an option. Zero interest and no desire whatsoever to even look at them. I've also ran out of console rpgs to play. There's some good ones coming out this year, but that's not a situation of soon. So what the fuck do I do? Trolling and porn surfing only takes you so far. I pull out D2 and install. Shit, those are some dated graphics. Never realized how old this game was until now, after just playing GW, WoW, and a few console games recently. I bought this damn thing 5 years ago? And have played it off and on since then. Maybe a month or two at a time, but that's usually the max. Well hot damn If I don't make a character and have fun. Within moments the 'grahpics shock' was gone. I rolled my favorite: necromancer focusing on pets. There's just something about creating minions from corpses that excites me. I try not to read into that very far. I'm doing the same quests. The same areas are there along with the same bosses. Nothing is different. I get lucky and a few uniques drop before I've even seen Diablo. Somehow actually seeing those drop brought a smile to my face and delivered instant gratification. People are nice. I'm surprised to discover that every single player I run across is either polite or just quiet. Random luck? Maybe. It could be that the more 'excited' players have moved on to brighter and shinier things. More suprisingly I see over 64k players several hours before lunch. I'm guessing it would be easy to catch 80-100k or more in the afternoon or evening. I think to myself, "Why the fuck are so many people still playing this 5 year old game?" I then process the question for a second and tell myself, "You stupid cunt slurper...you're playing it." Maybe it's the promise of all that nice loot. Maybe it's because everything is familiar and comfortable. Somehow the game is plain fun. It's enjoyable. It rewards you. For some reason I feel a little happier about playing D2 than I do most new games. I guess I shouldn't analyze it too much. So there's my precious necromancer. Skeletons are kicking everything's ass, loot is dropping...I'll probably pharm some stuff and twink a few theory builds of other classes and eventually I'll stop and play other games instead. Maybe this is the last time I'll install it. Maybe the next time I kill slaughter hordes of demons will be... So, Diablo 3. You know it's being made. If it's not already coded and working then it's at least down on paper and being discussed seriously. I don't think it's even a question of whether or not I will buy it. I think about how it will be done and just hope for some simple things. I'd like to see classes with options to focus on pets and things like that. If they just do one or two that way then I'll be satisfied. I wonder if sometime in the next few years If i'll be taking a break from a MMO and installing D3 to have a little fun. I wonder why I'm gonna be pissed at that MMO or if it was a case of boredom. I think about how many MMO choices we might have by then and if they'll all suck ass. I wonder if I'll be having so much fun with a MMO that I'll have to squeeze D3 in during non-raid hours. Maybe my character will kick ass and be decked in leet gear. Maybe I'm an officer again and maybe I'm not. I wonder if this MMO pumps out so much rewarding content that we just can't seem to defeat it all and put it on pharm status before yet another expansion or free update flies into our face. Of the two situations we can all see which might be preferred. Maybe the 2nd option isn't so nice for D3, but I'm sure it would manage somehow. I wish I could look ahead and see which one was going to happen. Last edited by Kolle : 05-28-2005 at 07:29 AM. |

| I've actually been playing it on and off for hte last week or so. Amazon boobies 4tw. Get a large inv/stash mod and you'll be thanking yourself for doing so (although you cant play on bnet with said mod). 1.10 changed/added commands. try /players # and give yourself an added challenge. |

| How amusing, I sat here with three MMOs on my computer and messaged my friend yesterday "I wish we had Diablo 3." My next question was "Want to play Diablo 2 again?" which we somehow seem to do whenever we run out of game options. People can say what they will, but it's a fun game with a neat 'world', good art, and an enjoyable multiplayer experience with good friends, especially on hardcore, so you can laugh at whoever dies. I will say that I spent a *lot* of time on D2 with my friends, probably as much as I spent on EQ. |

| For me games like Diablo2 are like fast food, nothing really special, but you get around it every time you run out of anything else to eat and then it's at least semi-tasty. |

+1 Internets | My friends and I go also go back to Diablo II occasionally for shits and giggles when we're bored. But more often we go back to Diablo I, like last week. Hacked me up some GPOW and a King's Sword of Haste and then went to call out Diablo. I wouldn't mind seeing a Diablo III some time in the near future. Question: Would Diablo III being released as a MMORPG be a good or bad thing? |

To be honest though after playing WoW I think I'd rather have Diablo 3 not be a MMORPG. | |

| MMODiablo would be neat if it was the 2d view with hordes of shit to tear through, just like D2, but with thousands of other players instead of just 7. Just think D2 with a massive world and thousands of players, and no fucking combat healing except potions and shitty holy bolt. |

| I could see a Diablo 3 MMO being awesome. Sure you would get the same crowd as WoW but if they made the game more mature like the Diablo series naturally is compared to the Warcraft series, it would be amazing. I could see areas like Duskwood on a much much larger scale for a Diablo 3 MMO. I highly doubt that will happen though. WoW is way way too new for that to ever happen. It's a shame too.
