| WoW naming policy relaxed In Europe anyway. The WoW naming policy has been a pretty large bone of contention for a lot of people. It seems the community is split between those who like a strict policy because they are fed up of dealing with retarded names and those who want to be able to name their character xXasscrackXx. Recently the European WoW servers have had the policy relaxed: Quote:

maybe now they'll have time for legitimate customer service? I don't care if some kid has a name even stupider than your mom wants me. I want me fucking help requests answered. Name chasing is a waste of everyone's time. Also, would you invite goatserulexxx to your group? What if his name was atser? If you don't like those kinds of people and would rather not associate with them a shitty name is your first line of defense.

So I guess the name of my alt orc hunter 'Gnomophile' is still not allowed. Anyway, I've seen dozens of people with rule-breaking names, and I've never heard anyone on the server complain about a name-change (even tho these people with these names are probably stupid enough to spam it in general all day long would it happen). Not to mention all the people with offensive names in their own language, I don't think anyone who doesn't speak dutch would know that 'Retenaaier' actually means buttfucker :P I doubt they have that many GM's to speak a language other then english (or french/german on those servers), so the chances of these names being found are small.

The problem was never the naming policy, it was the retards they have doing enforcement. You don't have to be some roleplaying fag to consider those kinds of names a lot more than "mildly inappropriate".

It may just be odd timing, but they seem to have relaxed the beauracracy a bit in regards to CS, at least relative to naming. I first got my name squatted on the first day of release, and after dozens of petitions, emails, and whatnot, it was restored a few weeks back. It took them seven months to finally restore my name to me (Fulorian, instead of Fuloriann). Except I'd already quit. I don't believe for a minute it took 7 months to push through one little clear cut harassment/naming issue, and at the same time start rolling out name policy changes. Too convenient.

About 5 months ago I turned off player names in my UI. Has made me a lot happier. While I think some of the naming policy shit was stupid, spending all your CS time fucking with names is dumb too.

alright, heres an idea when a GM sees a name thats against the policy, instead of changing it, just enter it into a server wide 'database' of offensive names. the only thing this database would be used for, is to add in a feature for "Ignore Fucktards" and it would automatically ignore anyone on that list (updated dynamically of course). Think of it like a voluntary netnanny for the idiots of wow. Hmm, i think ill go post that on the suggestions forum
