| Anyone play Eve online? I'm sitting here staring at my screen looking for something to do and I went to direct2drive to look for a good game and I saw eve online. Is it worth it? I've got the extra money and 35 bucks doesent seem that much but I just want to know wether or not I'll play for a few days then quit. |

| Its fun in its way. Whether its way is your way or not who knows? You should be able to find a link to a 14 day free trial (think there's a link to it in the EVE thread in the Graffe OT forums forinstance) so you can try it for free. Varia |

+29 Internets | You can increase font sizes and so on, but yeah, I know what you mean. The UI in that game though is one of the best I've ever seen in any game, ever. They're damn good at that sort of thing. Graphical design as well, they've got some talented people at CCP. Personally I never got that into it mostly cause I'm not much into PvP. Plus I found the game somewhat difficult to meet other people, or at least you had to actively seek others out. It's a pretty good game overall, and IMO has one of the best MMOG companies running it. They are constantly tweaking and changing features, adding things, and so on, so there's always something new going on. |

+1 Internets | You can DL the client and play for 2 weeks I believe, no need to shell out the $'s aside from the monthly fee. Let me try to dig up the link. https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?sk=GHELL Try that, should still work. Last edited by DJk_zero : 05-24-2005 at 10:46 PM. |

+1 Internets | It's good in that you can pretty much do what you want. Mine all day, fight all day, mix of both, join a corp (guild) blah blah blah. Just a warning tho, the game is VERY deep and you will pretty much be overwhelmed in the beginning with just how much information is accessable. If you can do a good bit of reading on the official board faqs it will help out alot. |

| I played it for a while, back when it came out, and I have a few friends and other associates that still play. I found E&B more entertaining, if that tells you much. Their implementation of the mining/trade-route stuff is painfully boring to me, and I have a hard time playing a space combat game where all I ever get to blow up is other similar space ships. I need giant space monsters with wacky abilities and behaviors and shit. That, and the UI running really poorly on my machine, made me give it up pretty quickly. Some people clearly like it though, so maybe it'll have what you're looking for. |

+2 Internets | One of its strengths, and weaknesses, was the size of the universe. It is huge. You feel quite isolated from everyone else when you were out on a mission, because you can go hours without even catching a glimpse of another player. That is the way space games should feel. However, it makes for a difficult interaction and community feel for the same reason. Overall, I liked it. If you liked the feel of space in 2001 over star wars, you would likely enjoy it. |

| I'm kinda biased since I'm working on it but still, if you like those kind of games, I recommend you try www.starsonata.com It look ok for a 2d game, it got a bit of pvp, pve content, etc. The base and building aspect is the best I saw in any game, I think it's worth checking out just for that. It does take a bit more time to get to that point though. The original dev inspired themselves very heavily from The Elite, a game I have heard about but not played. You can download and play the game up until lvl 20, no time limit. I didn't try eve online though, maybe I should, at least to inspire myself and try to get ideas to implement in ss. | What's neat about EVE is all the roles players have created within the game. There's corps who work as mercenaries that other corps hire as ringers to join their corp during wars. Other corps just specialize in mining, or trading etc, it's neat like that. The thing that suprised me the most was in most corps if you help out in some way, haul cargo or what have you, they PAY you. |

| I played the beta. I don't know how it is now, but at that time the game was a complete bore. You would tell your ship to go to some asteroid field 10 billion miles from wherever you were and then stare at your screen for 10 minutes while your ship automatically flew there. Then you'd click on the rocks, watch your ship mine, and then fly back to the station for 10 minutes. You would unload and sell and repeat until you could afford an upgrade. I once ran into some pirates at an asteroid field and died, losing my ship and basically having to start over from the beginning. It wasn't the same classic "kill endless mobs" grind, but it sure felt just as tedious. I hear it's improved now but I sure as hell will never touch that game again. |
