Why are +damage items not percentage based?

If not on damage at least on the spell's expected DPS?

They aren't % based yet because they dont want to start making those available until more time has passed/the new expansion has come out ;p

It's to avoid one of the easy mudflation pitfalls.

When they bring out expansions, they want to be able to bring out new kickass items that drop from the new much harder bosses.

By having a max of say +200 (10 items with +20~ each) damage over a set of gear and a best nuke of say 1000, then the damage that items can add its a 20% boost.

New content comes out, new spell has max damage of 1500. Their old gear still adds 200 damage to that, but as they gear up with the new +30~ damage gear from the expansion, then end up with +300 damage from the set. Once again, the set of gear adds about 20% to the base damage. This makes things a lot easier to balance between classes etc.

If the damage bonuses were +% then the gear from the new exp would either have the exact same bonus as your old gear - and everyone would complain abotu the new gear being not worthwhile RvR. If the % bonus was raised, then you have the issue of both spell damage and damage bonus compounding, fucking with power scales between classes and mudflating the whole system.

Or, instead of being retards, they could put some effort into itemization and not just go for straight +dmg increases.

Don't you mean Vivendi? Blizzard was already bought out. And they are probably milking it for all its worth (I seem to recall something about Vivendi being near bankruptcy and pulling themselves out barely) Kinda like a less succesful french Sony.
