A little E3 SciFi MMO stuff Mythic has a webcam setup for their Imperator booth. And NCSoft/Destination Games updated the Tabula Rasa site with in-game movies (and screenies but those went up a couple of days ago). Definitely a big departure from their 2004 e3 videos. Hopefully they'll release a video for Imperator this week. The screenshots so far look slightly bland and don't give much to dig into. But I'm hoping their formula is basically "take futuristic Roman Empire and dish in a heavy dose of Warhammer". TR looks alot less Cirque du Soleil fortunately (at least there's no bug-winged unicorns skipping about and ballet combat maneuvers in this one) but with all of the repetitive clips in those videos, it really drove home how boring their combat could really be if they can't come up with anything more than "stand back and fire big assed guns all the time". A few nifty effects shown there though (like the glowy that sticks to the body when hit by a gun blast and such). The pessimist in me says they're just going to suck but I still have a small glimmer of hope that maybe, one day, we'll get a SciFi MMO that doesn't suck monkey nuts. Edit: just noticed Gamespot put some Imperator gameplay videos a few days ago. I can't say I'm all that impressed yet =/ Last edited by Khalikryst : 05-18-2005 at 11:10 AM.

The problem with imperator, besides the rather crappy plot line is: This is Mythic Entertainment we are talking about, the company that managed to out EQ Everquest in the category of horrible PVE environments. Oh and its an ALL PVE GAME.

I like the concept of the game, although I agree that Mythic hasn't really shown that they know how to create great PvE content. Although DF in DAoC wasn't bad. I'd dig a just regular Roman Empire game, too, no need to bring scifi into it.

+7 Internets | The more Sci-fi they make it the more chance it will succeed I would think. If they go full out fantasy they will be competing with WoW, VG, and L2 - a losing proposition. The Fantasy MMO market already has too many games. |

No doubt it broke the game from a PVP balance perspective (ie. if you weren't ToA'd out you didn't stand a chance), that's not what I was talking about. The actual PVE content of ToA was pretty good, imo. Last edited by Kaxmax : 05-18-2005 at 12:48 PM.

+7 Internets | How did TOA break the game? Yeah they had to semi-nerf all attack speed/casting speed items, but that was about it. TOA made PVE actually worth doing. Up till then all PVE rewards were basically shit since you could max all relevent stats with a few gold worth of crafted armor. The SI raid zones - Galladoria/Tuscaren Glacier/Caer Sidi - were totally not worth the effort for the rewards. A lot of the TOA Master Level raids were pretty fun and came close to EQ1 in complexity/challenge. And they actually had loot worth getting. |

Because you HAD to have ToA gear to compete in PVP. They specificly said that ToA would in NO way effect PVP...what a load of complete horse shit. I played DAoC to kill folks. When they released ToA it was almost impossible to kill, tricked out in TOA gear, those bastards. Unless of course you also went and got TOA stuff. On my server there were such huge fights over spawns and ML stuff that it just got to the point I didn't want to play any more. Didn't break the game my ass.

I really don't know why people hate ToA so much. With clustering now, I'd be willing to wager on each cluster there's some ML raid EVERY NIGHT, for being more than a year or two old ToA gets tons of use. Most of the encounters are interesting, but its a shame that most are simply zerged over with 100+ people, or cheesed with the lame way buffs affect pets, making pets better tanks than players and letting a pet class and a bot solo things meant for multiple groups. The Pheonix though is a cool encounter that you can't just zerg over in 2 minutes, it requires people to actually pay attention and do their job.

If it had been in another game I would have agreed with you. But this was a PVP game..not a PVE game. It just goes to show you how fucked up Mythic's view is. 3 PVE expansions before they even did a PVP expansion....when PVP was their MAIN player base? How retarded can one company be?

You people are missing the point. I don't care what ToA did to DAoC's PVP. The contention was that Mythic can't make good PVE content. ToA was good PVE content (even if it did ruin the PVP aspect of the game).

Do you just magically start at level 50? No. DAoC has always been a combo of the 2. ToA was just the next logical progression of their PvE just like Velious was to EQ, I just don't think they realized the effect it would have on RvR. My guess is they thought people would have 1 or 2 artifacts at most. I think they thought their low utility would scare people away from having too many. Well people figured out you can have 5 or 6, and combined with other rare drops from ML and artifact mobs you can still max out important stats. I'm sure it was made with the best of intentions but power gamers will always find ways to break things.
