| Yes, FFXI will still suck, better graphics or not. I won't play it, but will this mean they will get their own seperate servers WITH headset support? Maybe kiss the keyboard byebye. Either way, fuck it cause the EXP was way too fucking slow to get in that shitty game. I hope FFXI isn't the only thing SE will do for XBOX cause that's a MAJOR score for Microsoft. |

| Not that FFXI is a good game or anything now but it is a little different now than when most of you all probably tried it. For leveling speed has been highly increased at the 50+ range so if exp is the only reason you dont play you might want to pick it back up. |

I feel sorry for people who chose/choose that game as their first MMO, many of them think all MMO's are like that model and are turned off by the genre completely and go right back to FPS and single-player games. That game is about as fun as having a pap smear AND having teeth pulled at the same time. Without novacain. Or cool pills afterwards. Just run away from it, Xbox won't make it any better. | |

| While there's still a lot wrong with the game, I recently went back to playing it... I really like the job/subjob flexibility and the design of the game world. New exp changes past 50 are really nice also, makes it more feasable to play different jobs. I also actually really like how the controls were set up originally for console play... for me who likes to use a keyboard only I find the controls extremely smooth and natural (once you learn them). I think the main reason FFXI's experience was really ruined for a lot of people was the JP/lack of NA near initial release. FFXI is very very group/people oriented and having the JP dominate and much smaller english populations caused a lot of problems. I think separate NA servers would have done wonderful things for the game, or even just europe/NA servers (seems europeans are much more likely to understand english/and be willing to speak english than the JP). Knowing 10+ people who you group with a lot, do activities with a lot makes the game much more enjoyable IMO, and many NA's never even got to the point of really connecting with other people (as much as you do in an online game at least). +29 Internets | Had they had NA servers, I might have played it longer than I did. (a month or so) I don't dislike japanese, but I'd prefere people speak english in public and group channels. That and a windowed mode - not being able to window the game was a major reason I quit. I use a dual-screen setup, and I want to browse, msn, read e-mails and look stuff up on the other screen while playing. Now the job system in FFXI is a pure act of genius. I wish every MMORPG had it. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense from an in-game point of view, but if you got fed up with playing a SK, you could start a paladin and, once leveled high enough, keep most your gear no matter which class you picked. Those choosing completly different classes would have to spend more time farming too => more content being used. Subclasses are the win - what better way to make your character unique. Would you rather have a Wizard who can also heal, or one with some limited crowd control ability? Or maybe some warrior action to wear plate? Obviously it'd need a lot of work striking a good balance, but the possibilities are almost endless and definatly fun. Plus it keeps people busy, and even when the game gets older, people will still consume low level content to get up a 4th or 5th class. They can't use them all at the same time, so it wouldn't force you to level more than a class and a sub-class to be most efficient, but people would do it anyway. That also helps newbies joining the game later on - if grouping is more efficient than soloing, they could end up in groups with more experienced people who can give them some hints. (like how /assist works in EQ1...) Someone who starts EQ now would be alone and abandoned for a very long time and might just quit the game again. That also sucks if you wan't to start an alt and not twink him to hell or powerlevel him. Personally, I'm not considering any game "2nd (or 3rd - or whatever they call it now) Generation" without some sort of subclass system. Everything else is a been-there, done-that with a slightly different twist. Quests to hit the next level: awesome. I love the idea of that. Not every 5 levels, and not in early levels - but (comparing it to EQ) at 59 (to hit 60), 64 and 69 - definatly yeah. Add a challenging "epic-style" quest that could be done by one group and is the same for every class. Let people work together to beat a couple instances before hitting the final level of the expansion. (they could remove the requirements to finish the quest when the population around that level gets low - ie 49 to 50. Just keep somewhat of a reward and maybe 20% exp at the end so it's still worth doing.) Definatly better than grinding 66-70 in PoFire without ever stepping foot in OoW. (as an example) |
