Really lazy or good idea?

Has any other MMO done this yet?

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...=1#post3146821

For those that shrivel up at touching the WoW boards, basically the guy is suggesting that you should be able to 'link' mobs in chat, much like items, to better help with assigning targets and keeping track of sheep, etc...

EQ2 has this in a slightly different form. It's called 'Implied Targetting'. Essentially, if you target someone in your group or raid, a second window pops up with anything they have targetted in it. If you're in battle, then all your negative effects and spells go to the Implied Target, while the beneficial effects and spells go to your target. It's a bit easier to work with than an assist key but it can be dangerous as well since if your auto-attack is on and your target targets something close by, you'll attack it, possibly throwing you into combat before you're ready.

I actually like the idea in a way, but it is fairly lazy.

Yeah I like EQ2's system. Wish WoW had it.

Think CoH has that "smart" assisting too, made it really easy to attack what the MT is attacking, or heal what a mob is beating on - just heal the mob it will heal the mobs target.

WoW kinda sorta does that. If you have the mob targeted an cast a heal spell it 'preps' it so you can heal any target, not just the mobs target.

But this is more of a

Raidleader tells the raid, "Mage1 poly Mob1, Mage2 poly Mob2, Tank1 tank Mob3, everybody else on Mob4"

And clicking on mob1 in the text will give you that mob.

It takes some 'skill' out of the game I suppose. But WoW is a game of convenience so I really don't see why something liket his can't be implemented.

This latest patch added functionality to do even more than that with the odd "targettarget" function.

You can keep moving throught the targetting sequence and do really odd things ("targettargettarget").

I'm tired of the pussification of these games. There should be a sharp stick that comes with the game that so you can poke your eye out to make targetting and playing the game "harder" and more "challenging"

Seriuosly, lazy? Maybe, but remember that a lot of things that make the game "more user-friendly" are perceived as "dumbing down the game" -- a big "no no" for the hardcore crowd.

I don't really see why this would be necessary. The encounters the guy is talking about last about 1 minute per group, if that. Taking the time to mark all the targets and assign who is doing what, is just a waste of time.

What's wrong with sending in the MT, the crowd control people do their thing, and if you have strays that run for the cloth-wearing people, your off-tank knows to leave the main target and get aggro. I guess I know whats wrong. It requires you to think and pay attention.

I personally wouldn't mind having linked mobs in the game, but using it for the functunality that the poster was talking about is just stupid.

CT_Raid allows the raid leader to assign multiple tanks already, and a window with the tank and their target that, if you click, lets you assist that tank. As for sheep and such, is it so hard to create a macro that casts sheep and has you saying "Sheeping << %T >> DO NOT TOUCH!"??

It seems like people are just excessively lazy. How about healers auto-heal whoever is lowest on health, too? Really, folks, this game might be newbie-friendly, but it doesn't mean it should play our characters for us.

EDIT: I swear I was editing my post when Camerous posted.

Hell let's just press a button and let the damn game play for us!! Then everyone can be equal cause the AI the computer uses to simiulate you actually playing the fucking game would all be the same! Woot!

Edit. And as a bonus it will run around saying, "I WTF PWNED YOU NOOB!"*, when you kill a character 10 lvls below you. That's right you too can brag to your friends what a great pvper you are!

*E-Pen strokes are free of charge at this time.

I'm pretty sure there's a mod out there that will calculate the most efficient heal based on the target's health and rate of decline then cast it with a single right-click on the player's name in the unit bar (party).

omg...*shakes head*

Edit. How fucking pathetic must your gaming abilities be to use something like this? I just don't understand the lvl of gimpness that is required to actually have to relie on a mod that casts spells for you cause you're too much of a loser to determine which spell you need to cast.

I wouldn't call myself anything close to hardcore with regards to PVE.

I'm sure there are people here who raid more shit in a weekend than I have since started playing.

However, I do think that what I have experienced of WoW PVE (Up to UBRS) has become pretty damn trivial.

I'd rather wipe to the idiocy that some people display in these instances than have it go unpunished because of forgiving gameplay.

Castparty sorta does this, but honestly it doesn't really work as well as I'd like. It doesn't seem to really take the rate of damage into account that well, and I often end up either overhealing or underhealing, so I tend to just use the manual heal selection and time stuff myself.

I mainly like CastParty because it makes it easy to heal someone without targeting them, and because it automatically calls heals in chat.
