GuildWars Haters Rejoice!

Basically, everything that was wrong with the game in Beta is still in place. I have yet to identify a single improvement from 8 months ago outside of the menu bar graphics.

This includes what that the Developers/Producers identified as things that would be resolved/changed before launch.

Some select hilarity...

-Boss mobs that heal themselves for 45% of their total HP every 10 seconds.

-Inane multi-money/time-sink crafting system to obtain any and all worthwhile items.

-Complete lack of an AH yet the crafting system described above requires continuous trading to create decent items without hours of farming for random drops.

Worst of all, the gimmicky stalemate inducing PVP system of overpowered abilities and counters (which I actually find fun) requires putting up with the horrendous PVE game to "unlock" the best abilities.

I almost picked it up to give it a try and see if it improved any from the beta I played. Glad I bought Silent Hunter III instead.

A simple knockdown or energyburn revents this. It just forces you to something other than just whack away at it.

Honestly, by the time I got the the town with the best armor crafter, I had all the materials and money I needed. It's not that big of a time sink, you just have to hold on to shit while you quest.

I prefer not having an AH/Bazaar. While it was time consuming, I prefer the old days of EC where you could turn a profit instead of having to continually lower your prices. Again, you obtain crafting materials by salvaging drops. Even rare items aren't really rare if you know what you are doing.

Most people that have tried the PvP have liked it. I like the PvE too, simply because that scenery and game changes after certain images. Having a story line complete with cinematic is also a nice touch.

Guild Wars isn't for everyone, but its fun, cheap, and I can actually log onto the server and do shit without having to fuck around with the poor CS and server stabilty of WoW.

Did they at least remove the infinite money trick with skill charms?

Indeed, for instance you pay a monthly fee to blizzard and get superior CS, flawless servers.

It's not too bad, it's not perfect either. At least it's something new, not the 30th "Velious-like MMORPG". It's a MMORPG for CS / WC / SC players,.

Actually, I'm thinking about the ones that use healing signet which the devs admitted to as being broken in beta (still broken). It's cheapass (in the sense of rushed, no real thought or effort) design, plain and simple.

Unfortunately, it doesn't play out that simple for everyone. The salvage tables don't appear to have changed since beta so certain common and rare crafting components remain absurdly rare while others are perfectly common.

EQ implemented a bazaar, FFXI had an AH, WoW has an AH. Guess why? Cause you're the small minority. I guarantee that the vast majority of players would love to forgo the endless trade spamming, haggling and price assessment to spend more time actually playing the game.

The support for this was overwhelming in every dev chat during beta. How it was left it out is beyond me.

I agree here. I like the PVP, cinematic story line and visuals.

I've never had a problem with stability in WoW and CS in GW is non-existant.

Mesmers have a role? Oh my.

I don't really see the problem here. My characters are making progress quite nicely by salvaging items for cloth/iron/etc. The armor and weapon crafting process isn't really that expensive or time consuming. Especially when you consider the materials vendors.

i only paid 39.99 canadian for this game at futureshop (including a free T-Shirt) so I'm pretty happy to have it as a stress killer when i get tired of WoW

the crafting materials thing kinda bugs me though, have yet to see 1 fur or scale and i'm to the gates of kryta, and yes i have the correct salvage kit...

Gamespot gave it a 9.2, which when you consider the genre (MMORPG), is saying something. The only other one they've given over a 9.0 on is WoW.

Uhhh no. They gave DAoC a whopping 9.1 too, and Im sure a few more along the way.

They're notoriously generous to MMOs except SOEs. According to them City of Heroes was a better game than EQ1, so what does that tell you?

Does anyone believe any review site's scores? Most are horribly too kind. Here is an average compilation of review sites and scoring as it compares to MMORPGs (Note: GW is absent because it hasn't been review much at all).

I doubt anyone would fully agree with it.

Gamestop reviews for MMORPGs suck. Hell, even their normal reviews suck. There's no other way to say it really.

Some people are going to be blissfully unaware of the major unabalances and bugs and go about their business, others are going to be aware but decide the fun factor balances it out, and the rest are not going to touch it with a ten foot-pole. Although I guess you can say that for every MMORPG, eh?

Also, as far as I know, Vanguard:SOH has no plans for an AH... I could be wrong though. Not having an AH is not an absolute dealbreaker as long as the game has intuitive ways around the problem.
