+5 Internets | This particular Dev team months ago instituted a patch that basically made any mob 4 levels above you purple. Purple in the CoH con system is suppsoed to mean"I will kill you leave me be" So whatever ,that goes in and basicalyl you could kill somethign 4 levels above you but because your damage is reduced for every level a mob has on you in addition to your accuracy it was hardly worth your while. Anything 5 levels and up is suicide for most classes,And anything 7 levels above you is totally immpossible to kill. You can't hit it,and when you do you do patheticalyl low damage. An attack that may do 200 damage to an even level mob might do 10 damage to one 8 levels above you. This is VS a Minion,a Boss class character is basicalyl the equivalent to a WoW elite mob all things else in either game being equal. So if an 8+ Minion is immpossible to kill a Boss is no where in the stratosphere of killable. Anyone that plays this game knows this. Statesmans first came to the boards claiming that his Regen Scrapper build on their IA servers was capable of taking on 4-5 +8 level Bosses. It was also capable of taking on 15-20 minions or something like that, obviously all the players cried bullshit, since its not possible in any way shape or form.EVERY SINGLE person in the game knows this. The kicker is not only can he take them on but it takes him 3 attacks to kill one 8 levels higher than him. That was what was shown in the Demo,A regular scrapper requires two-three hits to kill a minion his level, the amount of attacks required to kill opponents above his level rises dramatically up until around 6-7 levels where it becomes nigh immpossible. You want to trumpet theDevelopers for admitting they were wrong? great you do that. My question is,what Testers are they using that thought that killing a mob 8 Levels above you for the same time and risk as is required for a mob your level seemed right to them? My next Question is,since obviously the testers are dipshits, why did the LEAD DESIGNER of the game who then watched the Demos also not realize that somethign was fucked up. Why did the Lead Designer of that game need to go to his playerbase to realize that his Internal Testing Envoirnment was fucked up. You make mistakes and you apologize for them thats fine, missing somethign so obscenely overpowered as what was occuring in that demo should have set off all kinds of alarms to anyone that has ever played any kind of MMORPG at all.The ability to kill somethign 8 levels above you for the same risk as one even to you while reaping 10 times the reward in experience is not somethign the Lead Designer of a succesful MMO should assume to be working as intended, especially so when they applied a patch almost a year prior that prevented doing so from even being possible. And of course the fuck up of all fuck ups leads to him not realizing his shit is broken but rather leads him to the decision that he needs to nerf a fucking class because of it. Like what the fuck? | I say fucking props to them! Devs being open and admitting flaws is awesome. Every person is human just like the devs and something could even slip past them. Of course this is a pretty big fuck up that makes you go man lolz, regardless props for fessing up.

Someone recently asked why people suck up to Brad. Well shit, maybe because he's the only GD Dev who posts around boards like these. It goes a long way.

+17 Internets | Man I resubscribed to CoH (again) right before going back to WoW. I can't believe how little the improvements seemed to be after a year. I was seriously bored as balls.

I remember back on flameplay he said they wanted to, but couldn't because they looked ridiculous with the current graphics engine.

I resubscribed more on the hope that the Out of Combat System is going to be in issue 5. Most rumors seem to point to that. If not I might take hiatus again *sigh* But, if I was playing WoW all I have to look forward to is zerg rush PvP and armor that looks like this. The cartoony aspect has gone from stylish to UTTER RETARDATION: ![]() Every time I look at that tauren I get a little more angry with Blizzard's art department. Poor tauren...I still love you, moo moo. Blizzard probably only extended free time because SOE extended free time cause of Blizzard's competition. I'm not complaining about anybody giving out a few days of free play to compensate for inability to keep servers up, but it wasn't motivated by pure altruism. I hope those two power MMOs slug it out until the whole playing field is a whole lot more friendly for the players. Last edited by Iannis : 04-24-2005 at 10:25 AM.

They'll never apologize for design because they think they know it all. Just lucky for them they had the Blizzard name to rely on, and some decent designers early on. As it stands now they're wearing the biggest blinders in the world.

| Except that Blizzard is clearly NOT listening to their playerbase, that is unless they are screaming and creating threads with over 50 pages of complaints. After playing the game since alpha it's pretty clear they do their thing first and worry about the results later. While I'm all for creative control and not letting the playerbase completely dictate the direction of the game... I'm not for what appears to me to be a pretty clear "territory" battle of Blizzard vs. The Players. I think there's a lot more of the "it's our game if they don't like it, fuck em" attitude at Blizzard than there needs to be. The whole dishonor system is a classic example. While there are those for and against it (player wise) it's pretty damn clear that the vast vast majority would prefer there be some dishonor to avoid ganking. But someone at Blizzard has made up his mind and "that's it!". Reminds me of movies where the protagonist starts out friendly and rapidly spirals into delusion and fanaticism and is unable to see things from any perspective other than his own. Not to mention having too much pride to admit mistakes in the first place. And I think it's pretty important to note the differance between wanting a game where you have a reasonable chance to enjoy your playtime as opposed wanting "gandalf powers". I don't see many asking for these "ganfalf powers" you are harping about, I people asking for something reasonable (and something that's been asked for for a LONG time) and being completely ignored. You watch, Blizzard will fix this problem a month from now but will never ever admit they were wrong. No, they'll say it was always in the works and they were just implimenting it slowly. Just the way they've handled all their fuckups, server problems aside. |

| seems to me they kicked ass. I mean they screwed the pooch and the dev came out and ADMITED IT. I wish the devs in every fucking game would have the balls to admit when they create a cluster fuck. I know most devs think they know it all and while alot of players are retards there are more then a few with a clue. Anyway kudos to CoH for having a dev with the guts to say he blew it. |
