Prolly been said but you certainly can aid him. In fact you can train the entire villiage on him and wait for him to cleave. Then go get more. He can slaugher the entire keep and the entire villiage for you several times before he gets to the bottom tower.

I did this quest a while ago (about 2 months or so). I had no idea about how hard it was, so I tried it solo (I don't read spoilers unless I realy have to). So when he told me to drop the illusion, I did. When we exited the keep the elite commander aggroed me while he was busy with about 3 other. I managed to hold my guy long enough (use my HS and Heal potion) until my escort came in, HEALED ME, and proceded to kick more ass. After that, we had not problems reaching the tower together. During his conversation with the Mage/Inquisitor guy, he did say, I have to handle this on my own, you protect yourself. He and his targets were not attackable, ie you can't realy help him there, even if you want. Needless to say I got owned by the elite guards pretty quick, but I didn't release to see what happens. After he died, I though I failed and was about to release when I saw his father turn up so I watched some more. After his father kicked some ass I saw the ? I thought maybe I didn't realy fail after all. So I released, ran back and he was still there. I'm still wearing the cloak of the exile, that was one of the best quests I have done, there are some screens on my guild website with me and my budy in action.

So the quest was not that vague, I managed to solo it on first try, without any spoilers, even tho I got owned at the end big time.

"Whats so hard" is that:

1. He tells you to drop the illusion, but you do not have to. If you listen to him, the quest is made somewhat harder since you can agro guys in Hearthglen on the way out and die. So right off the bat we are getting incorrect information from the NPC - he says he will kill you with the illusion on, but he wont, and keeping it on is actually better.

2. He does not say whether to help him or not. After running the quest four times, I have observed that he *can* die within the walls of and just outside of Hearthglen. Once he makes his way a bit down the path, he can CH himself and can not die until intended to.
I believe the intent is for players to do it as a group, you are meant to help him. The dumb thing to my mind is that you first need to help him, then you need to watch him die.

I succeeded solo on my first try in jan-feb, I dropped illusion as required and just assisted him. Unfortunately I got killed when he did, luckily I didn't release and Tirion kicked some ass.

On my (and many others) first time doing Scholomance, we didn't know that during the final boss fight if you were summoned to one of the rooms, you were too far away from the corpse to get a chance to loot it. So when we killed him, our warlock was summoned in one of the rooms and thus could not loot him (corpse never sparkled or anything). Dreadmist mask dropped of course, and warlock wanted it. So I looted it and asked a GM to move it to the warlock. Of course the GM didn't. This proves that you can ninja loot and nothing bad happens.

I saw your screenshot. You apparently didn't see all of my post, especially the bottom part.
