idiotic GMs and broken quests

I began what would eventually become the "Of Love and Family" quest last week. I reached the point where I was required to 5-man Stratholme scarlet side and obtain the painting from the Archivist room - 10 hours later that was done.

After returning to the elder Fordring in EP, I was sent to the Hag near Uther's tomb to receive the Scarlet illusion, and asked to enter Hearthglen and give the junior Fordring a parcel of items. I did this.

Once the junior Fordring sees the parcel of items, he denouces the Scarlet order and attacks and kills the guards in the room with him. He tells me to "remove my disguise" so that he doesnt inadvertantly kill me. I do so.

We then make our way out of Hearthglen, killing any Scarlets that get in our way. I do not assist him, until we reach the gates of Hearthglen and it is absolutely apparent to me that he is going to die. I jump in and end up saving him, at which point he slowly fades away. I get no message about a quest completion or failure - nada.

I returned to the elder Fordring - nothing there.

After doing some reading, it seems that I was not supposed to assist him in Hearthglen, and that he was supposed to die. My first question - how the hell was I supposed to know that? Perhaps if he said "do not assist me" I would have known, but no, he says "escort me out of Hearthglen". Very explicit. Further, I'm told that removing the Scarlet Illusion is also unnecessary - why does he tell me to do this?

So anyway I submitted a GM ticket and 5 hours later went to bed with no response. I awoke to find this in my email box:

In order to try and solve your current quest issue we ask that you do the following:

-Abandon the quest from the quest log
-Move all quest items to the main backpack
-Return to the NPC that gave you the quest (If it is a series, the last NPC you interacted with)
-Acquire the quest again
-If the "error duplicate item appears" then please destroy any quest items.

If the same issue occurs a second time, please petition for a Game Master detailing the events. We thank you for your patience.

Thank you again for contacting us. We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft!

When I created my ticket, I was explicit as to the quest I was on and why I was now screwed. Then I get a GM telling me to "go back to the last NPC involved" - that would be the Junior Fordring in Hearthglen who will kill me on-sight since I will not have the Scarlet Illusion on and can not get it back.

Issues here:
1. Your GMs dont know how quests work
2. They issue canned responses which are wrong
3. Inter-quest text is nebulous as to how players should interact with the NPCs, yet doing the wrong thing totally blows the quest
4. It took me 10+ hours to get to this point in the quest and there will likely be no recourse

Pretty sure you can go back to the hag chick or whatever she was that originally gave you the quest to get the illusion re-applied.

That is the only thing I havent tried, however once I talked to the Junior Fordring I completed one portion of the quest and moved on to the next, so I'm not in the same position as I was when I first visited her. Further, the parcel of items he takes is also what she wants to see to give the illusion, and I no longer have it.

I know you are talking about their email, and you are right, it's gay. Just to be clear though, in terms of the quest I am on, you can't do it all over again. Once you pass a certain point Fordring wont give you the quests again.

True and this proves that GM have never played the game, don't have access to quest/game information and are complete fucktards. Maybe they hire the "I LOVE SQUIRRELZ!" posters from the boards as GMs...

If you do get the quest again Gin don't do a thing after he you hand it in. Dont drop illusion, dont fight anyone, just watch the damage fly.

You have to go back and get the Illusion from her. She will cast it on you again.

Abandon the quest, get the Illusion, talk to Fordring again.

yeah i got that now after reading some spoilers. too bad reading spoilers is the only way to guarantee an error free completion of the quest

Where as I am a fan of not having every little detail about lore or quest handed to you like a How To manual, having the quest actually lead you to do things to break it is monumentally retarded.

I want a quest that makes me think to complete it, don't give me hints... but if it does give me hints, they better not cause me to fail if I do as suggested.

I had a quest poof at one point several months ago. I had the item to redo that part of the qeust, but I didn't ahve the qeust and the qeustgiver on that step in the qeust chain wouldn't talk to me, nor the person in the step before. I was basically screwed out of the quest.

Braen the problem here isn't the quest, its FuckYou. It's not at all a hard quest to figure out what to do, and if you fail I think most people's first inclination is to go back and get the illusion again. This quest is actually one of the best in the game imo.

what a bunch of horse shit - are you actually telling me that I am supposed to somehow, without words, figure out that I should *not* assist the NPC who I am escorting? This is contrary to every sinlge escort quest I have ever done in WoW, where you damn well jump in and assist, including the Munitions shipment in Loch Modan, the goblin escort in RKF, and so forth.

dont even try and pin this bullshit on me. without spoilers you have at BEST a 50/50 chance of guessing what you are supposed to do on this quest. being able to redo it (something I have not verified yet) is small consolation and totally fucks up any enjoyment of the storyline.
