MxO shot itself in the foot by being made today, instead of like...when people thought the Matrix was cool, instead of having to write essays justifying why the sequels shouldn't tarnish the original.

Considering the way the franchise has dropped off the face of the collective consience, they should just take the money from the boxes they somehow managed to sell and shut the thing off now before they spend any more money.

They lost a ba-za-gillion dollarrs in the AOL merger fiasco, they wont miss this project getting dumped.

The Hilarious conclusion to this thread

Quote:
Hi Everyone,

There seems to be a lot of misinformation and confusion over the recent mission system fixes with this latest patch and we wanted to clarify a few specific points of concern with all of you.

First of all, Mission Experience has not been ‘nerfed’.

We simply closed down an exploit that was unintended in the design. This design exploit allowed players the ability to continuously reject missions until an extremely favorable location appeared. Typically, this new mission location would be in the very same floor and building as the previously completed mission. This 'sweet spotting' allowed players to knock out missions in record time, often without any travel or preparation time involved. This was extremely unbalancing to the game and needed to be changed.

So what did we change?

Well, in the fast-paced world of the Mega City, faster is not always better. When you accept a mission from one of the three Organizations, or a special neighborhood contact, they are now expecting quality – not quantity. Completing missions are not speed races, and each one should take a certain amount of time to complete.

For example, it should take players about 30 minutes to complete the three phases of an ‘Assassination’ mission undertaken on the ‘Hard’ setting . If a player somehow completes all three phases of the mission in the blindingly fast time of three minutes (which is about 10% of the normal time), then they will now only receive 10% of the total prize instead of the full 100%.

So now, the crafty player who 'sweet spots' a mission location will get roughly the same amount of information and experience that a normal player receives by playing it straight.

How long should missions take?

Each mission is different, and many contain different time modifiers based on the tasks and travel involved. However, a good rule of thumb is that an ‘Easy’ mission should take 10 minutes, a ‘Medium’ mission 20 minutes, and a ‘Hard’ one 30 minutes.

There are no bonuses or penalties associated with completing a mission later than expected. So if you always finish 10 minute Easy missions in 15 minutes, you will always get 100% of the reward. But if they only take you 5 minutes to finish then it will be 50% of the total.

When performing a mission, simply making sure that all NPCs are killed or dealt with will almost always ensure that the proper time limit is used up. Using secret short-cuts to defeat your missions will still earn you victories; they just won't pay as well.
For honesty sake I'll let you all know a retarded monkey while masterbating could finish a "hard" mission in 10 minutes.

From beta reports it sounded like this company had the chance to make the worst MMO ever.

And now it looks they went ahead and raised the bar a little bit so that the next terrible MMO will be able to say "Hey, we at least we aren't Matrix Online".

Penalizing people for being good is awesome.

That is seriously the worst fix to any problem I have ever heard of.

Because that makes a lot of sense.

I wonder if they could have ruined a franchise as well as they have if they had inteded to?

This post was going to have something witty about the exp thing, but I forgot the damn quote I was going to use =*(

I actually laughed out loud when I heard there would be a Matrix MMO.

Then I heard it was true.

Rofl that is a pretty lame-ass fix.

Let's apply it to the movies!!

Trinity: They will successfuly hack the codes from Morpheus's brain in 30 minutes

Neo: We better hurry then

*10 minutes later*

Guard: Please remove any metal items, duped gold

Guard inspects Neo....is decked out in purple items

Guard: Holy shit...Ugghhh!!!!

*5 minutes after that*

Trinity: Good work...we pwned them all...now lets rescue Morph...we only have 15min to go!!!

Neo: Already got him...I hacked the Matrix and was able to find an unused doorway. Then I was able to dodge bullets from the agents, thus reducing my downtime. Finally, I figured out that if I killed certain guards, the agents wouldnt be able to respawn close by, thus cutting precious minutes off my trip

Trinity: Wow...good thinking! You must really be the One

Oracle appears

Oracle: Sorry kid, but you're only half the One.

Neo: wtf?

Oracle: His brain was going to be hacked in 30 minutes. If you had waited another 15minutes to get him, you would have been the One.

Neo: Whoa...

At least the producers are delivering. Everyone in thier right mind thought this game would blow, and its nice to see them with the full on crazy going.

Here's the $64,000 question: Will this game ever be succesful enough to generate a Rang market?

That's a terminal case of the lames right there, RL money for the MxO currency.

Followup:

Dear Lord in Heaven, there's MxO rang for sale on IGE.com. Who in the world is buying that? Wow.

What the fuck kind of stupid is this anology? You deserve a broken and shitty game for this kind of shit coming out of your ass.

Please enlighten me as to why it is flawed?

You excel at a mission and complete it in under the time limit that the devs envisioned. You get less of a reward for doing so. I tried to convey the issue with some irony.

And when did I ever say I ever played the damn thing? ;p I already played Matrix Online last year...it was called "City of Heroes".

Anyone that played this game in beta for more than 30 mins would see what a steaming pile of shit it is. *shakes head* It has even AC2 beat in terms of just plain stupid design concepts and complete pointlessness. WTG!

There is a Best Buy I go to all the time so sadly (dammit not ashamed to admit this either) I know the staff.

Here is what I was told about their MxO sales.

Ya...we've sold 5 boxes since release. 3 people tried to return it.

OUCH.
