Only other forums I really read are the ones over at Penny Arcade. A lot of the mods have power issues but it's an interesting forum if you are into non-MMO games.

Ironically, they are currently down because of a Mod Gone Wild.

These are the only forums I read. Probably really the only sensible place to discuss MMORPGs (disregarding more academic and hypothetical places like Terra Nova).

MMORPG's fade over time and eventualy die. Just take alook at current server merging with EQ. Some day it will be WoW's time to fade away, then Vangard then whatever else is top dog that year.

I know the Screenshot Forum and the people who read it are considered Second Class Citizens around here, but I don't think getting rid of it entirely is a good idea. Maybe dump the PGT, or set up donations to cover all bandwith or both, but Screenshots is the 'entertainment' section of this board, and honestly, no offense, but I can only listen to General MMORPG Discussion beat the same dead horse once maybe twice per week, but I can roll with Screenshots daily.

I don't think dumping screenshots is necessary

just stop allowing local attachment of file. people can use imageshack or one of the other free image hosting services almost as easily, and it'll reduce bandwidth use, perhaps significantly.

I think we should probably wait on the "how to save the FoH forums!" posts until someone actually tells us what the problem is/was.

It may very well have nothing to do with bandwidth, and I for one think the PGT is a piece of internet history that must be preserved!

I think the problem is probably two fold.

One, is clearly a provider/host situation, that we could get resolved via monetary donations. Fuck, I'd wager within a week of a fund drive here, you'd have enough to cover costs for 5 years from the people who read this forum as their bread and butter.

And second is clearly a lack of moderation. Furor kept the place neat and tidy, and now there's annoying dust mites and dirty underwear starting to build up. It's not really detracting from the value of the forums, but it's definitely starting to become more noticable.

Simple solution, fund drive, and have someone with some charisma take over the ban stick.

I think you could cut down on bandwidth by making this board viewable only by members who can already post. this way the jackoffs at bnet cant run here everytime to see what tigole said and slow the board down to a crawl.
