+12 Internets | Identity Theft on a whole new level. http://eq2.fohguild.org/forums/viewt...er=asc&start=0 http://forums.tritonguild.net/index.php?showtopic=1628 We've all had characters that steal other characters name and one of the first things people do when starting a new mmo seems to be making up chars to reserve the names they want. It seems that the only thing of any great value that you can get in these games these days is the reputation associated with the name, something that is built up over long periouds of time. For a guild's name it is even more so. The reputations that some of the big guilds have built up, such as a Triton, have taken years to get to and countless man hours from they members. For some people with a very tenuous link to the original Triton to use that as an excuse to in effect steal the name is rather mind blowing. Do guild names, and their associated reputations, have any rights to keep those names forever or can just anyone take the name they want if they get to it first. This is a particuarly interesting situation in that Sony runs both eq1 and eq2 and as such are in some position to do something about it if they chose to though obviously I don't think they would. I'm curious what other people think about the situation. |

| I saw some Triton tags in EQ2 but didn't have any idea it wasn't the "real" Triton. From the story in the thread on the FoH eq2 board, though, it looks like one of the founders of the eq2 "guild" was a late fill-in recruit to the EQ1 Triton? Certainly not a "founding" member in any case. And using a guild name to try to take advantage of cred you didn't earn, is pretty sad. |

| Considering all the blowjobs someone must get from calling themselves "Triton" or "Fires of Heaven" in a video game, this must be stopped immediately. Night Elves are being exploited people. God forbid, someday someone might take a name that's actually under copyright by some author and take away his livelihood. Not to mention all those BJs. In short, less whining, more kills, who gives a fuck what your name is. ![]() |

+29 Internets | Copying the logo is a big no-no, they could definatly get them to change it. Name is fair game though, unless a guild (generally speaking, not Triton) went through the trouble to get some product with their guild name made, offer it for sale, and trademark the guild name. That's quite a bit of work, and not free either, so I don't see many people doing it... especially not if your guild name is "borrowed" from somewhere ![]() |

| whats in a name? they can call themselves triton if they want, but everyone knows they are losers for doing so and are likely to have any miniscule accomplishments they manage to pull off degraded by their idiotic hijacking of an existing guilds name. in a similar vein, the real triton could rename themselves Cock Rockers and still be regarded as successful due to their accomplishments. the short of the long: its gay to use someone elses name, even tho there is no official doctrine saying you cant. in cases of accidental overlapping of names, sure, mistakes happen. in this case however i find it hard to believe that no one knew about the real Triton ©.
