| That's funny, since on those boards the blasters are complaining that they'll never win an arena match if they have to fight under the no Travel Powers restriction. they'll change their tune quick when those arenas are put in I betthey've added in quite a bit, I've seen in my 14 day free pass I've used. It's still just a smash'em up game...but it excelled at being just a smash'em up game. Once the out of combat skills system is implemented, and if they managed to do it WELL though...well, CoH will be kicking some mega-ass. Look, people who make use of monthly fees to regularly content patch! *gasp* Last edited by Iannis : 03-04-2005 at 02:49 PM. |

+5 Internets | I quit playing this game in October, mostly becuase I was pissed off that Issue 2 borked my Dark Armor scrapper. They acknowledged while it was on test that it borked the scrapper and did nothing about it. 2 Months later after statements saying they would fix the class; nothing,so I quit. they eventually did fix it Last month apperently,Only took them 6-7 months to fix a major gaemplay issue for a class... I dunno, they are newbs at this just like blizzard is,still stuns me that next month the game will have been out for a year, and outside of the Hamidon which existed even in beta, not one single thing in these all mighty content patches they put has featured anythign for a max level character to do... Oh wait, thats right if you level to 50 in CoH you gain the power of being able to make a special alternate character which you can then level all over again.Doing the exact same missions in the exact same zones gaining zero difference in gameplay outside of the fact your playing a different class, which you could do at any point beofre reaching 50 in the first place. I still stand by my belief that if they had released this game on the X-Box/PS2 and made it so that it was a single player offline mode where you start out in say galaxy and work your way through the city by wiping each zone clean of crime, have access to every power in the game and log online to hubs to do missions it would have been far more succesful in terms of game sales... All it is is a glorified console game... |

| City of Heroes is a journey game, not a destination game. Most other MMOs out there are ultimately destination games. If you try and view it as a destination game you will hate it. But damn the journey in CoH can be more fun than the journey in any other MMO. |

It's a grinding game. You either wander the zones killing mobs or you do a mission. Missions consist of the following. A: Kill everything in it B: Rescue Hostage(s) C: Click Magical Glowing things D: Kill Boss E: A combination of all or some of the above. Your base attacks and defenses are laid out before your level 20,as a Damage Type class. My particular scrapper had his three main attacks by the time he was lvl 6 (Dark Melee) after that I picked up his resistacne shields everything after like lvl 14 was utility and fluff. I walk up to somethign and hit a combination of Smite,Shadow Maul and Shadow punch over and over until it dies or I die.Everything else around me is either stunned or feared or whiffing from the ridiculously high Acc debuff on Clock of fear. By the time you are lvl 10 you will have seen every type of mission, all that will change is the mob types and while its nice to see new mob types this is hardly dynamic content. There is a handful of Missions with unique Goals and temp powers and such. There is just so much that could be done with this game but for some reason the Developers just do I don't even fucking know with it. NCsoft forces their clients to publish an update every 3 months, and from the looks of the updates CoH has put out they are hard pressed to meet this requirement. A better Deve team could take this game and turn it into gold, the ones currently working on it have their heads so far up their asses it's appaling. Straight up telling your playerbase that scrappers can't get to 90% resistance even after they say what powers and slotting you need and Data mining should show that damn near every scrapper is built for it is idiotic.Jack Emmerett sticks his foot in his mouth on an almost daily basis, the only enduring factor of that is that he at least admits it. Bascially you create a game that is very rewarding for a solo player,he gets all the way to 50 and earns the chance to start all over again as a "special" class but instead of being able to solo he has to group or his character is gimped. They are attuned to each other or some bs and gain power when you group with other aliens... I struggle to understand why I would pick up a superhero game that ultimately rewards me with an alien but whatever. Last edited by Surlok TP : 03-04-2005 at 10:35 PM. | ||

| yup, just spent the night on a Positron task force and had hella fun. Certainly a "journey, not the destination" game. It seems players learned how to actually not be jackasses in groups since I last flew around the city a few months back. Or it might've simply been due to the fact we didn't have people using knockback powers every goddamn 4 seconds, forcing me (the melee) to run around like a headless chicken. *That's probably the first time since early EverQuest where I was in a pick-up group that didn't end up with some absolute skillless clueless asshole in it, whose ability to suck is roughly equal to a black hole...except their thoughts could escape the gravitational pull due to lack of substance. You know the type, if you've ever pick-up grouped in WoW. Or were post Luclin players (bwa ha ha) It's a grinding game still. Made powers come too slowly...maybe if they introduce their out of combat skills update, and allow you to create temporary powers for influence or inspirations. I dunno, something to make it more MUSH-like. Let you explore your creativity! Something with a bit of depth aside for hitting the same 10 buttons through the entire game. They did seem to introduce some quasi random spawns and roamers, which is kind of cool. I remember some guys really complained on how there was no danger behind you. it's an alt game no doubt.. Unrivalled character creator. I forgot how much fun that thing was. They'd probably lose accounts if they simply made the character creator in a stand-alone demo. Probably why they never have. i don't understand the aliens very well either. They're not really a Superman alien type...they're a funky cthulian squid alien...don't remember those in comic books. I remember the Marvel aliens had funny helmets, big titties, and metal space spandex though! Last edited by Iannis : 03-05-2005 at 02:42 AM. |

+2 Internets | From what I've read on the official boards, arena matches will have a bunch of customizable options (such as allow/disallow travel powers) so people can tweak the rulesets to how they want to play. I have a feeling not many people will play with travel powers active, for obvious reasons. |
