| Call me crazy... But I'm actually thinking about going back to EQ1. I have WoW, I have EQ2, and I've tried the crap Matrix Online and City of Heroes. I don't really need to explain WoW's problems on these forums. EQ2 has promise, but it just seems like a watered down EQ1 with half the classes they say there really is. EQ2 really just doesn't do it for me at this point. Matrix Online is horrid. City of Heroes is actually a good game, but after level 35 I just found myself saying "Wtf am I doing?" Has anyone checked out EQ1 lately? Is it worth going back to, or is my nostalgia of the "good ol' days" getting the best of me? That's assuming that I actually have something to go back to. Presarc |

+3 Internets | Re: Call me crazy... First the obligatory... YOU'RE CRAZY! But seriously. I have a friend in CD on Veeshan. They recently killed the last mob in OoW ad have started on DoN. They seem to like the game and the big changes to it. Most of them did not move on to WoW or EQ2. People are liking the guild bank and guild hall. The mail system is buggy but it is a good concept. New bazaar is devoid of lag according to them, but they took out the arena in it... It's amazing what a little good competition can do to a company.

| Flat out crazy. I wouldn't give SOE another cent and I couldn't see myself having anything to do with such a chore of a game ever again. I have fun in WoW....the bugs drive me nuts and the lack of content patches makes me sad in the pants but I'd still play it over EQ any day of the week. |

| Raiding is probably still more of the same, that is to say kinda fun and interesting. But I can't really imagine myself grinding AAs in Plane of Earth anymore (or any new hot zone), pulling the same kind of mobs for hours. |

| Is saying that you will never give another cent to Sony just the hip thing to say? What exactly did they do that was so terrible? The Rathe and Plane of Time cock blocks? Sure, there were a lot of knee jerk reactions over time, but was there anything ever that bad? I'm genuinely curious as to why people are so adamant about boycotting Sony now that WoW is out. Will we see people swearing that they will never give another cent to Blizzard if there isn't a content patch soon too? |

| Yeah what's with the spontaneous cases of amnesia pertaining to EQ1? Sure it was 'teh game' and we all had a blast playing it at some point, but have wow and eq2 made you cry so bad you're willing to forgive all your old boyfriend's sins like they never existed? "What does it matter he beated me anyway? Was that so bad?" |

Yeah, it'd be cool to go back to all of the good bits. But I'm not sure it would be so great if we did. EQ had a lot of problems that I reckon it still hasn't got rid of.

+62 Internets | I particularily enjoyed the bug for two weeks where if a mob was running and you were out of melee combat range it would warp back to it's spawn point, making kiting impossible as well as killing any mob that ran when low on health since it would warp to spawn and insta-heal. Or early Kunark. Zone into Sebellis and die? Better hope a cleric with a key is on or you aren't getting your shit back! Need a VP key? Here, let's camp Pained soul for 12 hours, killing the ph every 9 minutes then having some fucking newbie run by on his way to the leet new Disco camp gank the mob when you go to grab a dew, come back and see, "What's this medallion I just looted for????" in ooc. Nothing says an 'eveing well spent' when you just sat on the waiting list for Lord/AM/hand for 8 hours, finally get the invite, then the group either breaks up when you get there because the enchanter has to go and there's none other on. Or getting a King group, only to be trained 20 minutes later because some fuckjob 15 year old is pissed you got invited ahead of him. How about not being able to get a guild as a cleric because every lvl 40+ guild requires that you have a manastone. How about staying up 3 hours past your bedtime because you wiped in fear and have an awesomely shitty day at work the next day? How about spending 3 months at lvl 50 with nothing to do but farm Lord all fucking day long? You only get to do Fear once every month, maybe hate as well if you get lucky and your server is small enough to give guilds two calendar slots per month? And of course, let's not forget the hybrid XP penalty! Or rogues pickpocketing all the platinum so none could get groups! Or druids/shaman being essentially a waste of a group slot! "Train inc" Who else forgot to send a tell and thus got kicked out of the jboots line they've been camping for nearly what seems like 3 weeks? -"Hey...did you go to that Gm event last night?" -"Yeah! It was awesome! Everybody died 5 times with no xp rez's, then the zone crashed." Though I do miss clerics, enchanters and warriors no longer wanting to do fear once hate opened. On that note, who wants Carmine Toilet Paper? +10 to ass sweat absorption. Hey, it's been 3 months. When are you guys going to get around to fixing alchemy and pet duel wield? What's that you say? They're not broken!?! Here's a log, screen shot and a GM confessional. Still don't believe me? Wtf!!! Welcome to the Karanas...home of the "autorun and hope you don't hit a tree or werewofl." Y'know, before I knew about auto-run I used to balance my cordless phone on my forward key and go afk to make supper? Ah...Paladin...the roleplayers class, because there's no other use for them. *SNUGGLE* I could go on, and that's only through the first expansion! But it's all worth it right? Because you get to be one of 100,000 assholes who can say, "Ahh...man, anyone -else- remember Bronze armor being the shit? haha!" Fuck you. |

| I havent played EQ since sometime after oow was release but I tried to get back into it then and was boring as crap. Sit around trying to get grouped up so I could get to 70, furthest I made it to was 67 before boredom set in and finally sold off the account. There are times when I sit back and wanna go find my install disc's some where and log on my rogue from my first account but my ego cant handle starting so far off from the people at the top. Even if I could, trying to get to 70(from 65) getting the 300aa's or so I would need is just something I dont look forward to doing in EQ, its boring and I just dont have the attention span to sit down and group for any meaningful amounts of time. But the thing that just really soured me on EQ when I went back for a bit and the reason I got really bored was because everytime I did a /who friends or checked who was still on it, i knew those people probably wouldnt log on because they quit awhile ago and without those people EQ would never be the same. People look back at EQ and say man I miss it, to me the thing that made EQ was just the friendships made while striving for a common goal. To me thats what this whole nostalgia craze is about, EQ was great because of the people you played with day in and day out and they are the reason people put up with all the shit that sony threw at us. Some people say that once you've popped your mmorgp cherry(most with EQ) that it'll never be the same. Kinda personal but I'm sure others could vouche that although their first time, sexually, was memorable there have been other encounters that have been better and just stick out in your mind more than your 1st(obvious exceptions aside). I think WoW had a chance to be that other experience that just made you forget about your first and imo it relatively failed. The first thing I remember hearing about instances in WoW was how there would be instances inside the dungeons. And I was like man how cool would that be to have a Seb type dungeon but instance Trak. Be able to sit in a dungeon with 30 something people off doing their own things in groups while 2-3 guilds go after a boss mob off in his little instanced lair. They totally dropped the ball on that one. You need seb, guk type dungeons to help build comraderee a reason to stick around through login problems, artificial cockblocks, untuned content cause face it I dont think any game will ever not have anything wrong with it. I know people like to solo and do their own thing but these type of games need social interaction in order for people to stay for 3-4 years and right now in WoW there is no reason to interact socially at all. Anyways sorry for the long post, cant sleep. |
