Hell, I've never tried it before, so I might as well now.

Plus I just cancelled my WoW account, so what am I to do?

WoW = Shitstorm at this point.

Content patch that does something = I'm back.

something to think about

I'm glad I quit WoW ahead of the curve (like over 2 months ago), as I ended up with less time invested and less overall disappointment. That being said, I didn't that "bump around aimlessly" thing for a day or two, looking for something to play.

I found it and have been happily playing it ever since. The Neverwinter Nights community is still going strong with some increadible, user designed, user run persistent worlds out there.

If you have the game, just hit: Play > Multiplayer > Join Internet Game and then check out the filters for PW Action and PW Story.

Anyhow, like I said, getting my online thrills without the pangs of disappointment or the monthly hand dipping into my wallet.

My best friend beta'd UO, and I would go over there, and, having played MUD's, you could feel how much the jump to having graphics was. It was goose-bump inducing the first time we logged in, started exploring and saw and interacted with other people.

I am really glad its still kicking.

Wow, 5 expansions. I started when they released the first one, and quit after 2 years - I don't think they even got their second expansion out by then.

I do remember OSI promissing to add more land for houses and necromancy a few months before I quit - they never got it done =/

I suppose if I can convince some people to download the UO trial as well, I might play it for a week or two - for old time's sake

If you want to go back and play older versions of UO for free, check out http://www.uorebirth.com/ for the dreadlord days or www.uogamers.com for a higher population server that offers more variety in pvp. In additon, http://www.eqguildwars.com/ is coming out in 3 days or so for old style eq pvp. Don't waste your time with samurai empires.

For a second there, I thought you were going to link me to some place to play original, unbastardized UO. Then I realized that this is just a 15 day trial for the latest incarnation of its old, mangled corpse that EA seems intent on puppeting around. They're gonna need more embalming fluid soon.
