| So, Blizzard called me today. Called me up on my cellphone, about 5 minutes ago in reference to my thread on the WoW forums. Charley was his name, very well spoken... He actually asked me if I really did cancel my account, which was true after he looked it up and found out it expires on the 8th. While they did take the time to call me, they couldn't answer any of my questions concerning the patch or the warlock issues... One thing I did found out however, is Infernals will be getting a boost in terms of reliability with enslave, which we knew but it WILL be going in this patch. I was stunned, shocked and overall thrilled to see such dedication to the playerbase, me, a relatively unknown highend raider from EQ in a no-name guild on a low-pop server, was specifically called to see if they could bring me back. I was very angry last night with feelings of doubt in the Blizzard name. With this simple phonecall I was able to have a glint of hope. Conspiracy or not, Blizzard IS trying, it may not seem like it, but WoW is far from dead. This sparse patching cycle weve had the past 2 months is a newb mistake, which is perfectly acceptable, being they are new. This post is not a post to try and change peoples opinions, people will have their opinions whether I say anything or not. I just wanted to share my experience and tell you that in my honest opinion, this was only a bump in the road, and not a cliff. Either cancel your account for a few months and wait for the patches to roll in, or keep plugging along, either way, you're going to one day get what you wanted out of this game.

| You are not damn right | Fuck that. Thats like my credit card company somehow enrolling me in some gay 5$ payment protection plan. I called them and said "wtf I never signed on for this take me off" and they go into this whole "well are you *sure* you dont want this excellent protection? You really are better off having it" blah blah This, in with the peon crying thing is shit. It's sale's pressure. While it's cool that he tried to offer insight on fixes or whatever, I think you're going to have alot of pissed off people if everyone is getting calls after cancelled accounts.

I was gonna say they have no common sense, but that's actually pretty obvious. This is a PR trick. A lame one at that. Random phonecalls to random people so they can go "I'M RANDOM!" and all the other randoms go "wow that's great a random guy like me got randomly called by a random blizzard guy!" and throughout random land everybody's happy. Fuck that.

I bet there is people in game which petitioned about some shit, that have not had one RL person respond by e-mail or other means for days. And some sap bitches on the forums that they are quitting or about to and they fucking call you? WTF? "Please dont quit! I beg you! Honest the patch is coming soon!" Whats next? A dark van rolling down your street And men in suits roaming around your house? This is the most fucked up shit ive heard. I hope this is a joke, because it reeks of fakeness.

+2 Internets | Yeah I'm sorry but the lead designer was in a raid guild in everquest, they should have an idea of how to patch an MMO. The "we're new and will make mistakes" bullshit doesn't cut it. It's not hard to research what everquest did right to be so successful over such a long period of time. |

+4 Internets | Nice to see them puting their new cash flow to good use. Much cheaper to hire someone to call random-guy-23 than make a game that would attract him back.

| You expect us to honestly believe: a) That in the middle of the afternoon on a FRIDAY (read: when people are normally working) a Blizzard staffer called you? b) That they would respond to a short rant that you made over the hundreds of other long, well versed posts from people such as Lyte and Geeves? c) That their billing system would have your phone number more accessible to Blizzard staff than your subscription status. On the fiction scale I'd place this right between the tooth fairy and Area 51. |

| Nobody was attracted back by this phonecall, I wont be renewing my account til they get their shit straight. One, you are comparing Blizzard to SoE for patch schedules, which is apples and oranges since SoE never tested ANYTHING internally or externally, while Blizzard is doing BOTH and making sure shit wont delete your character upon hearthing into an Inn on a tuesday in march while wearing a robes of the lich. I sense bitterness and forgetfulness of how miserable you all were when SoE patched and servers were down all day long, with massive lag and dropping, disconnects and everything else that you could possibly imagine. If Furor isnt bitching, its for a good reason, it might be the money... But it also might be he knows quite a bit fucking more than any forum jockey, being in the Blizz HQ every day seeing shit get done.

| Lol what in my post is groundbreakingly bizarre and fake sounding? A customer support guy called me because my phone number is registered on my billing... The president of blizzard didn't call me up on his lunch break and start shooting the shit with me.

| Interesting... was there any indication if this was just one guy taking some time on his lunch break, or is this a policy? And is it a new policy or an old one? (Seems new since we haven't heard of any other phone calls.) Have they decided to monitor L50+ account cancellations (or posts), thinking that they're influencing other players? I'm feeling the same way about their communication as I did with SOE. I'd love something like a bug or issue tracker. And not just bugs, but more of a vision tracker, matching their plans against their internal testing methods and results. |
