Spells on boss mobs...

i know that boss mobs are high level, and i also know that when attacking a red, a resist is almost guarenteed.

forgive me for my lack of knowledge (only 41 right now) but how does spell damage work on a mob that's level 500 or whatever?

Yes, the lich in RFD is obviously really level 500, which is why you can hit him at level 40.


500 is just a mask to hide their real level. You won't find anything over a true level of 63 or *possibly* 64 in the game, even if it was masked, simply because they would be impossible due to the level difference.

From what I can tell anything marked as level 500 doesn't have a level at all. They simply have their own specific set of mitigation/avoidance/resist values.

Odd, I've found the exact opposite to be the case. I believe it was Galgann Firehammer, he's 500+ masked, however when encountering him at 40 & then returning at 41, it was quite obvious that he was 45 behind the mask.

This is correct, ya, and it can be traced back to beta when the Level 500 thing didn't exist. Bosses in instances up until that point all had a level, and after the patch that introduced this some of them got the level 500 tag. Nothing about these bosses changed and they were still clearly the same level, except that you could no longer see it on account of the 500 tag.

Its supposed to be 500 so that no matter what level you are you see the creature as a Skull rather than a level which should signify its difficulty.

The only people that see it as a 500 and not as intended are those who use some UI mod to unmask it.
