| My thoughts thusfar WoW doesn't hold a candle to EQ. the lore is there, the quest system is there, the graphics are there, but it just doesn't sync up. don't get me wrong, it's fun and i'm playing it, but EQ was a whole lot better in the days even up through Planes of Power. i know i'm not the only one who thinks this, at this point i'd rather touch myself and fall asleep at 10 o'clock than dedicate myself to WoW like i did with EQ. rickshaw me or whatever, i just want to hear if people feel the same way (maybe not necessarily about touching themselves, but whatever floats your boat) |

| We have had several come "back" to EQ in the guild i'm in after trying either EQ2/WoW. We had 68 in raid for our potime clearing today, that was the most we've ever had.. talk about a 3 hour zerg =\ I think a lot of this is simply - a community makes a game win or lose. Most people that stuck around in old school EQ did so because of their friends and community. FFXI had a crappy community because it was too cumbersome to communicate via americans / japanese. But it was strong if you got over that barrier. EQ2 currently has a strong community in the artisan world. I'm pretty impressed how it works, and how the dynamics of the economy are working out in respects to artisans. The adventuring community leaves much to be desired - from what I've seen so far. Hopefully at higher levels this will get better. EQ1 has a fantastic community because many people are so relied on. At lower levels, the community isnt really there, but theres still a lot of interaction for buffs, etc, needing others for rezzes, etc. Also, I dont know of any other game out there right now that can bring a community to one spot other than ooc'ing conviction @ nexus stone! WoW community .. well, battle net. Can go on about communication barriers with horde and alliance, but from past EQ experience (hi FV), we all know that doesnt work well in the long term. |

+2 Internets | Until its 2009 and WoW has 500.000+ subscriptions it hasn't shown jack shit. Why don't you design an empty husk yourself btw ? Or is earning millions of dollars on such a project to low of an occupation for you to dedicate to ? Last edited by Punko : 01-02-2005 at 07:40 AM. |

| WoW is good, but will never compare to EQ in its prime. They tried to make a game for ex-EQers and bnet kids at the same time and it just didnt work. After all that hype about the damn game, now just a month or two after release we see interest start to fall. Fast. Not that that came as any suprise to me, though. |

| Eh. You guys aren't looking at the big picture. Yeah it's not enticing some people from FoH...but look at all the pretty retards who have clung on like dyslexic koalas. They're loving it. I can see them loving it for many, many, many years.

| Threads like this put a smile on my face. Remember a year ago ? Every former EQ player was dissing the game and its mechanics, now it seems everyone feels nostalgic about it. It's been beaten to death on these boards but I think no other game will manage to recreate the original atmosphere of EQ for two major reasons : - First, the MMORPG market is now really crowded and there's no real sense of surprise and discovery anymore ; players have all the information before even playing the game and every newbie know where the spoilers are (thottbot). Remember old school EQ when you had to actually dig for information ingame yourself to achieve quests and find hot spots ? I don't think any game can recapture that simply because of the huge influx of information circulating around nowadays. Not saying it's a bad thing, it's just the internet and the way things change. - The MMORPG community has evolved and is much broader now. Maybe I'm too elitist but the old EQ community was pretty unique to me with a lot of confirmed players looking for what appeared to be the best online experience out there at the time. Now that the masses got accustomed to the genre, the community has grown much wider and is bound to keep growing for a long time. The newer games have to cater to this new audience in terms of game mechanisms to be succesful. That said, I'm going to play WoW when the game is released in EU but I definitely don't expect it to be another Everquest. I'm not looking for a new EQ anyway... |

I played EQ from beta2 up until PoP and Plane of Time. WOW is the first MMORPG (and I had tried playing DAOC and CoH) that didn't bore me after a couple of weeks. I'm currently 47, and still look forward to logging in each day. The game is fun and keeps you motivated. And the stupid fucks who are 60 and complaining about nothing to do: what the FUCK did you expect? Just like in EQ, now you're going to have to wait until a decent amount of the population and classes to catch up to open up the raid level content. | |

| EQ became work after awhile. I quit many times and went back and felt the exact same thing..that EQ was a fucking part time job. To hell with that I don't want another job. I've got one, and a wife and a kid. I want a game I can play for an hour or 2 when I have time, and I found it. But hey, go ahead and go back to EQ. You quit playing EQ for a reason...you think you're not gonna remember it after another couple of weeks? |

| The only thing missing in WoW is an equivalent to AAs. Put that in and I can't complain. Maybe make it so that you can only progress on the 'AAs' by single grouping high level dungeons. Something like that would really breathe the grouping game back to life at 60. I wouldn't complain about raids either. Molten core alone will probably keep most people enthralled for months. And in the mean time there are many places to add new raid content. I logged onto EQ once after leaving for WoW. I just felt the energy get sucked out of me. I could not ever go back to EQ. WoW will be tremendously better in every regard. In fact, the only area it lacks in is the previously mentioned equivalent to AAs. |

| EQ was a sweet sweet game up through Velious, after that the cohesion started falling apart...in part because of the different grahpics in various zones, but also because the zones started to be designed so that going from one to the next felt jarring. WoW certainly isn't better than what EQ felt like back during Velious...but its so far above what EQ is today. Longevity? Probably not for me, as I'm waiting for Vanguard...but it will certainly be around five years from now. The community will come with time...the game has barely been out more than a month...good lord how long did it take for noows to become a widely visited site? |
