Gnomeregan?

I know Gnomer isn't exactly "high-end" even at this point in the game, but I figured that there'd be less of a chance of getting stupid answers here than on the main WoW boards.

What is with the weird aggro in Gnomeregan? Was there with a group last night and we were moving through fine, cleared down to one of the lower floors, were drinking and resting and all of a sudden, BAM literally 10 of those trolls show up and wipe us out.

We figured, okay, must've just been a weird glitch, so we rezzed and came back in. Cleared down, BAM more random aggro.

Wasn't due to the alarm things, we were able to catch all of those and off them.

Is there some sort of geometry issue that causes weird aggro in there, or what?

Yeah I remember Razorfen being famous for a bug like this... just minding your own business and out of nowhere you get bum rushed by 20 mobs.

Just do yourself a favor and stay out of Gnomeragon, it's a crappy instance anyway.

First of all, Gnomeregan is a badass instance. It keeps you on your toes, and the loot off thermaplugg is pretty damn good for the level.

You said you were in the trogg area? In that case, I'd have to see where you were. I know of aggro problems once your in the dark iron agent area, because they CAN aggro over the edge, down on the bottom. You need to be low enough level that they aggro from that range. Also, they can aggro from the other side, if you have someone under lvl 29 with you.

We got hit with a super train there one time. It was basically the entire bottom hallway leading to thermaplugg. We figured out the problem and avoided it the next time, though.

We ended up getting frustrated and going to SM. My favorite instance so far, although I haven't done armory or cathedral yet.

So yeah, I think I'll skip Gnomeregan after that.

Ive done gnomeregan a bunch of times, and while I like the theme and whatnot, it's just too long for my taste.

On topic, we had a similar thing happen. In the final, descending tunnel to Thermaplugg, we were clearing the dark irons and whatnot, when all of a sudden from up the tunnel came about 30 DI's. I have the screenshot somewhere.

So far, I like SM the best. All parts. Armory is a little long for what you get.

The only trains i've had in troggland in gnomeregan was due to getting aggroed by an ambusher just before jumping down somewhere.

Remember that a) mobs have infinite persuit range in instances, and b) mobs will not jump down cliffs to follow you, but path all the way around the zone to get to you, and you can see how these trains form, and why they can take 5+ minutes to hit you.

I've not noticed any difference in aggro (other than the flux/blur on thermaplugg); the difference seems mostly to mostly just be people not being careful enough when approaching ledges. RFD is the samething, you can avoid the trains crawling up the spiral by hugging the outside edges.

BRD has (had?) a similar issue, when you're on the spiral up to the boss - you randomly aggro crap from above you.

Razorfen Downs has that spiral issue too, had to learn to keep our lower level folks near the opposite side of the path to avoid unnecessary aggro.

So, from the replies, it sounds like there are some weird aggro issues but you can avoid them if you're careful? I couldn't /see/ where we aggroed anything going down, but I suppose it's possible that we did and just couldn't tell. Seems odd for it to happen twice, though.

We were in that front area the first time, and then the airplane hanger the second, if that helps any. We didn't get very far in.

I think it just has to do with lvl range of the people with you. some like to try it with a few people alot lower lvl then should be and they have huge agro range, which ends up pulling from farther away then the group thinks they are and pulls much more then expected. Had the same thing happen in Razorfen because some one wanted to help a guild member and brought him at lvl 32 or so. He just kept creating big trains.

On the ramp down to Thermaplugg with the Dark Iron dorfs, that ramp has an upper and lower part to it. It sounds to me that you were on the lower part and aggroed the upper part by getting to close to it with a lower lvl group member. Then about 2 mins later the entire upper ramp has run down to the bottom, come across to the lower ramp and started comming up toward you to wipe you out. This happened to us a few nights ago.

I recommend going on the upper part next time and hugging the left wall as much as possible, but make sure noone is up on the little "lip" (you can get up there at the beginning of the ramp) along the wall. If there is someone up there and they get aggro, the mobs with path all around hell and back trying to get to that person, so stay off that lip!!!

Thanks for the info, if I do end up going back to Gnomer I'll give it a try.

Levels-wise, we were all early to mid 30s, I think I might've been the lowest at 33. Isn't that about the right range for the instance? At the early levels we were fighting all grey to green elites, which seems about right for the early part of an instance. I might be wrong though.

Based on what I've seen so far, not just in Gnomeregan, but other areas... vertical agro is kinda screwed up. Always was in EQ too... through floors too and such.

However, the only time I've really seen big problems in Gnomeregan was (as mentioned) you have someone under 29 with you.

I love that zone =)

I had the same type of bug happen in SM armory. After we opened the doors and went in to kill Herod like 5 or 6 of the scarlets spawned on top of us and wiped us.
