WoW raid gameplay

I see there's the competition on the blizzard page encouraging the hordes of lemmings to convert themselves into crunchy dragon snacks. But has anyone with EQ raid experience actually been involved in hitting a raid target? I'm interested in whether they offer better gameplay than EQ1.

I saw the EQ2 dragon raid, looked like you could get the raid mob single but then it did uber-DPS (3K hits) which is going to need a tank receiving massed spam heals to survive. I'm assuming that in both games there is not the same healing class disparity, so it will be all healers spamming their best (either speed or efficiency) heal.

So is WoW pretty much the same model, or did they find some innovations for the big mob fights?

Onyxia doesn't really follow a set pattern.

You fight her, she spawns two guards, fight her some more, she lays some eggs that spawn hatchlings that need to be AE'd. Fight her some more and she takes off flying and does a huge AoE on the crowd of people below her (or so I've heard). I haven't been in a raid that's made it past the hatchlings yet.

I didn't really do the GoD/OoW stuff but so far it seems pretty cool.. it's defintely going to require some skill.

I've been part of part of one Onyxia attempt out of what I am guessing maybe three or so on CB 1's alliance side. Getting to Onyxia herself isn't that hard once you learn to deal with the three NPCs you must defeat first. Each one being tougher then anything I had encountered before (including all other single group instance bosses). Onyxia herself spawned two of these NPCs when engaged and also can make non-elite whelps spawn when she is to close to her eggs. 40 people pounding on her for about 30 seconds did not move her health bar at all. Everyone got raped of course. There was another raid later that day I heard that managed to drop get her to 80%. Plan on heading back tonight now that instance saves have been cleared for beta.

%80 is the lowest I've heard.

Caydiem has said that there's a 'trick' to the event that people haven't found yet. The hope is that knowing the trick will allow the encounter to be more doable than it currently is, but not trivial to where it's boring during farm status. The best encounters are the ones that are dangerous well into farm status.
