a friend of mine needs help alpha testing his game

a friend of mine has asked me to alpha test a web-based game of his creation, anyone here is also welcome to test it if they want, the site is http://azimux.kicks-ass.net:8080/ the game itself looks very promising, but it's not something you can just sit down and play, you start to build something then you come back a few hours later and then build something else etc. this is kinda similar to pimp wars or what have you except that you won't be decimated while you are at work because of the slower pace to the game, right now since it is in alpha still the ticks are at 2 times the normal speed once every 30 mins.

if you try it and have any questions, check the help section first otherwise msg me on irc and ill try to answer your questions

thanks in advance

haha, hey there scae, hows it goin bro

thanks everyone for your interest, it is slow and there is a lot to absorb at first but it really is addictive and fun if you stick with it

my name on there is paroxysmal btw

you can mail each other in game and form alliances

the guy that runs the sites name is neighbors on there, he is an online friend of mine for probably going on 10 years now and it looks like he has put a lot of effort into this game especially since he doesn't type with a keyboard unless absolutely necessary

i love the game so far, but i just wish it would go faster, but the reason he has the delay on the ticks is because he doesn't want the casual players to get devastated if they are at work all day, if you send your ships to attack a planet it takes 9-11 hours for them to get there (in alpha its half that since 2x the ticks) so you have some chance to defend yourself or move forces towards that planet

again
thanks everyone for giving it a try, he really appreciates it and any feedback you can give him or me would be greatly appreciated

Well a little more complicated than chess, but yeah.

I played a game like this back in 2000, it's actually a lot of fun and you don't have to sit there for hours on end to actually be good at it. Once you get past the beginning phases of the game and you start to have a lot of fleets/planets under your control, that's where it gets fun. It takes a lot of strategy to be successful at this point, especially if you don't want to get wiped out(not sure if that's possible in this game).

Just gotta wait a few hours so I can finally start building some ships now :\

your home planet can't be wiped out, but any planet you annex can be destroyed and become uninhabited, if you start out with the suggested race, there is a ship called a terraformer that you can send to uninhabited planets to make them yours

I went with the suggested race as he recommended

I wanted to switch to another race, according to the manual you can do that under options, but it seems it can't be done on the home planet

Am assuming I have to annex another planet before I can change races

I guess I'll just stick with this race till I get the hang of things

I suggest trying Utopia out. It's in the middle of the round so you might get owned by some bigger provinces at the start, but it's a really good game if you like these sorts of things. I've been doing Utopia for years.

This game is actually just a direct rip-off of an old OLD game
called 'Planetarion' (www.planetarion.com) - by direct rip off, I mean quite literally it's 100% copied. Kinda sad, the only changes are some renaming of resources.

Sadly, planetarion requires you to pay now a days - but 5+ years ago it was damn hot.

eww.

ciao.

Thanks lol, that's the game I played back in the day for a while. I had forgotten the name and no matter what I typed in google I couldn't find it :\

azimux

Hello FOH :-)

Lord Thanos: the ability to play as multiple races under one account does not exist yet.

There was going to be alien annexors that allow you to take over another planet has a different race but that is not currently implemented.

You are free to create multiple accounts to test all three races if you would like.

Grooverider: yeah my game is very similar to planetarion and most other web-based strategy games.

The last time I played planetarion was at least three years ago and back then it was basically Utopia except that it was space-themed instead of medieval-themed and players fought over asteroids instead of land.

I can point out some of the key differences between my game and planetarion (I had a hard time finding it as well because I forgot how to spell it :-) )

At the Time planetarion didn't have races but apparently now it does, although the only differences are the ships you can build.

In azimux players fight over planets and for the rights to mine those planets for resources. This is different than where you have only one planet and battle over asteroids.

In my game ships retain damage suffered in battle, in planetarion, the hit points of the ships are not maintained outside of each tick, meaning if you do not kill the ship in one tick, it gets full hit points back the next.

Also, in planetarion ships always attack the weakest ship first, in azimux the ships randomly choose their targets so damage can be spread over several ships.

Combining these two, in planetarion you would never send 10 ships, each having 10 hit points, have each one suffer eight hit points of damage, and get back 10 ships with 2 hit points remaining. In azimux such a situation is possible. In planetarion 80 damage would kill 8 ships, and so would 89, and you would get back 2 ships that had full hitpoints. There is one ship in azimux that does always attack the weakest ship available and that is the vulture.

Planetarion was also "initiative based" which meant ships fired in a particular order, which meant if a player had a lot of ships that fired in a low initiative it was very hard to do damage to them if you were a smaller player because all of your ships would be dead before they even had a chance to fire. In azimux certain ships do have priority over other ships, but that just means they're more likely to fire first, not guaranteed. For example if ship A has priority 1 and ship B has priority 10 then ship B is 10 times more likely to be the next ship to fire than ship A.

The player races in azimux have completely different constructions and tech tree altogether. The usage of moons and resource gathering are completely different from each other as well.

I would be lying if I said azimux wasn't inspired by planetarion and other similar webbased strategy games that I played throughout the years.

When I started working on this game I focused on things that made me quit playing planetarion (I actually quit before they started charging)

I hated massive alliances, there were two gigantic alliances called Legion and fury, which seriously had like 50,000 players (and probably a lot of these are just multiple accounts are robots but nevertheless...), and if you happened to attack a player in one of these alliances, your round was basically over because they would take all of your asteroids and destroy all of your ships.

Azimux has built in alliances, you do not send your ships to attack or defend, you simply deploy them, your ships will not attack ships on by players that you are allied with, or within the same home world galaxy as. Alliances have a limit on number of players, currently set to 10.

I also hated the initiative system, it may players with tons of PDS (which had initiative 1) impossible to attack, you would lose everything you had before any of your ships could attack. In azimux the damages more proportional and realistic.

At any rate I truly appreciate the recent alpha testers who have signed up. I am unable to work on it until tomorrow night but after that I should be more active in fixing bugs and adding features :-)
