| WoW: Are characters tied to specific servers? OK for this stress test I started a Human Warrior on test 6 (CST PvP server). Anyway she's level 7 and I'm runing around doing quests last night and exploring the human starting area only there is some dickhead level 13 mage running around ganking much lower level people. I don't mind gankers as much as I minded him waiting until someone was near the end of a fight with a mob and the blasting them with a single small spell. I didn't really feel like dealing with it and since I had been wanting to try out the shaman class so I figured, screw it I'll just create a shaman on test 5 (CST normal server) and check it out until the ganking doofus camps. So I get back to the chracter select and click change realm and select test 5. And lo and behold after I connect to test 5 there is my warrior I created on test 6 listed as an available character. I think I must have clicked test 6 again but apparently not because it clearly says test 5 at the top of the screen. Is this how WoW is going work? Is changing servers going to be this easy? I wish I had tried to log her in and if I really did end up in a different realm instead of creating the shaman and heading into to game with him.

| There is no way a lvl 13 can be ganking people unless a) you are in a contested zone b) you are attacking first. At lvl 7, you shouldnt be in/attacking first. That will solve your problem. And yes...char are tied to a server.

+4 Internets | Please do not derail this into another stupid fucking PvP vs. PvE discussion, there is an entire huge thread for that already. I would like to hear some answers from other people's experiences. I have presonally just been playing around on the old beta1 server for now with my character from closed, but the available information on how characters will be moved from closed to open seems vague and now we see that maybe you can currently move a character from one stress/open beta server to another. Might this possibly be for people to have a chance to choose which server they like prior to the speculated character retention for retail? I really wish that they would just wipe everything before retail personally, but once again the available information seems vague. Hopefully we can make some estimation of what their intentions might be from this discussion. Or maybe it is just a bug. What I really do not understand is the movement of closed accounts to the open beta servers once stress is over. If I have a full list of characters on all three of the old closed servers, will each one transfer to a specific server in open? Maybe I will be able to choose which time zone and server I want my characters from each closed server to transfer onto instantaneously once open starts? Those questions are primarily why this occurance piqued my interest, because I thought that maybe there would be a swift and easy way to test out different servers with existing characters. I can not imagine that characters will not be tied to sevrers in retail, but at this point nothing would surprise me. Last edited by Fammaden : 11-04-2004 at 06:36 AM. |

| I could care less about a PvP vs. PvE debate - those are usually infested with people who fail to realize that PvP is not for the faint of heart and that they themselves actually fall into the faint of heart category. If you get pound you fists on the desk mad just because someone attacked you while your low health then PvP is not somewhere you should be. I'm more interested in the fact a character I created on test 6 appeared to also be available to play on test 5 and whether that's really the case or not. You can bet, though, that as soon as I get home from the office today that I'll actually see if I can log in the warrior on test 5 instead of test 6 where she was created.

| Why would you expect your character to be available on all servers? I can see something like this MAYBE for beta testing but every mmorpg is based on the fact that you cant just hop on another server if you get a bad rep or decide you dont like pvp anymore. You shouldn't be able to just get your level 60 and hop from server to server. |

Actually I don't that's the whole reason I started this thread. Did you read the original post? The one where I said I created a warrior on test 6 and when I connected to test 5 to create a shaman my warrior was staring me in the face as an "apparently" available character to play in that realm.

Lol Mangina. So much for being forced to make a guy character.

LOL. Yes I am a mangina in wow. Brief off topic story about why I do this so often now: Way back in the epoch in EQ when everyone and their brother was still whining about druids and how they could snare kite yellows with no risk I decided to start one up jsut to see what the big deal about them was about. So I start a WE druid not even really giving much thought to the look part since I figured this was a throw away character anyway - ended up being a blonde female WE named Tanlani (Autogen'd name). As I played the character to get a feel for druids I discovered an amazing thing - Higher level male characters would jsut give me stuff out of the blue without me asking or anything. - I know a good racket when I see one and this one was definitely sweet so I've often made female characters since then. As to why I play one in WoW: Would you rather stare at some dude's ass for hours on end or some female's ass for hours on end? Biodome: No clue who DMyst is but its not me. Only other nick I've had on these boards was Tanstaafl back in the noows days. For the record Darkmyst is my male DE warrior who's been collecting dust on the Innoruuk server for the last year or more.

Usually if I want to stare at a female ass, I'll go out and do it. If I want to play a MMORPG and look at a female ass, I'll find some porn and window WoW. Your philosophy is weak.
