Question about WoW forums and WoW itself

Sorry to post this here, but I got two problems. First is that I can't log in to WoW. When I type in my name and PW, it says "Connecting" and then after about 3 seconds it says "Could not connect." I realized this morning that I never chose what server to play on. It also says "No server selected" in the bottom right of the login screen (down below Cinematics and Credits).

So, my question is how do I select a server? I'm thinking of a USWest or USEast versus the actual game server (like Mannoroth). Maybe I'm crazy and this isn't actually the problem, so any advice would be appreciated.

Also, I noticed a file in WoW folder called "realmlisting.wtf" Is that supposed to be a .wtf file?

My second problem is that when I try to post a new topic in the WoW forums it logs me in as "gateway: wow" with name"anonymous". What's that all about? It gives me a "Forum restricted" when I tried asking this question over in tech support.

you usually need a character created to post in forums i think unanonymous.

i know it posts under my first character even tho i have like 6 chars that are higher level.

edit: firewall might be blocking wow

Character thing makes sense, hope that's the case. When you first logged in, did you pick a realm before or after logging in?

I don't think it's a firewall problem; some guys close to our lead-ResNet dude have been in WoW closed beta and they'd be the first to bug him to open any ports. I was also in the stress test just a few weeks back which worked fine.

u choose servers once you log in.

there is a general log in server then a server select(itll go straight to character select of last used server).

and if you installed SP2 recently it could be doing it.

SP2 has a builtin firewall, so itll do popups asking "do you wish to allow this program blah blah blah".

might have accidently clicked no at one point

I do have SP2, but I didn't click anything relating to WoW. Is there any way to either check what's been restricted by SP2 or remove it altogether?

So, what exactly is being blocked? I don't even have WoW at work, am I going to be eternally Anonymous?

If its not pulling something from the WoW program/directory then what precisely is SP2 supposed to be interefering with?

Ya I don't think that's the case. I checked on the UCSB resnet forums and as of this morning it seems something was changed to prevent logging into WOW. Normally I'd check the forum first but my mind is a bit off considering the fact that George Bush is going to be president for the next 4 years.
