Final Stress test begins followed by open beta

Blizzard has announced the final stress test and beta sign-ups, with the open beta beginning 5 to 7 days after the stress test ends.

Characters will be transfered from the stress test to the open beta.

The thing is though - you have to be a fileplanet member to get into this stress test, and fileplanet memberships cost money. (whereas last time it was free)

Doesn't this seem kind of counter-productive to anybody else?

With open beta 5 to seven days away, meaning free gameplay for anybody and everybody, who is gong to pay for it just to get a 6 day head start?

Shouldn't they be trying to get as many people into the stress test as possible?

Isn't that the whole point of a stress test?

I'm still staring down the 2.5 GB client download that they now tell me does not include new gameplay. Well, that and wondering why they couldn't simply push out the differences in a patch instead of a full new DL.

I'm still not forking over cash to fileplanet just to circumvent the bittorrent client that blizzard uses. Hmm, on that note though, I wonder why Blizz is so hot on a proprietary client. I have far better success using Azureus and the like once someone gets the file up publically.

Ah well, I'm not really complaining considering it is a beta. I've already had plenty of fun and uncovered more than a few bugs.

WTF, wish people would get off Fileplanet! I can't confirm my payment to them most likely due to the large influx of people trying to get memberships. Sucks.

Edit: hmm have confirmation email in inbox, hope that this page that keeps reloading doesnt bill me a thousand times.

Torrents are up already, look in the "WoW site down" thread.
Hopefully you don't get an entry code when you sign up with fileplanet, you just get the files...otherwise I'm downloading this shit for nothing.

Where exactly does it say 5 - 7 days after Stress ends, open begins? I'm curious. I saw absolutely no mention of timeframe anywhere.

Or, you could download it with this torrent:

http://www.ieguild.com/guildfiles/wowopenbeta.torrent

You still won't have an account, but you'll have the program. You need to go through the fileplanet bullshit to get an account creation key.

Unless someone ninja subscribed me at some point without my knowing it, I was able to use my normal non-pay membership to get a WoW beta account of my own.

I share it with some other people though, so its possible one of them upgraded it though.

Because they think you can horribly game the Bittorrent protocal with a custom client (which you can game it, a little bit but not that much). But their client has NO safeguards against anything because it assumes everyone is using the same client - check out your advanced window and look at all the people with special userIDs that haven't uploaded jack to you and are all nearing 100%...

Thank god for retards, they have COMPLETELY FUCKING BROKEN FP. I hope they all get stomach cancer, as this is the only way that I'll be able to grab the goddamn game, and now I can't.
