Neocron 2 open beta

I was in the beta for the first one. Was not fond of it at all but it wasn't horrid just you either picked up on it or you didn't.

I think it is semi-popular over in Europe. I will try Neocron 2 if I can find a beta invite somewhere.

It's open as far as I know, the client was about 1.6 gigs and only distributed via torrent.

At any rate I tried it for a few hours. Interface is somewhat unwieldly and the head bobbing from running was literally making me feel dizzy after about 20 minutes into it. Starting out is very unclear other then a standard ' go kill xxx robots and come back ', only hard part is the vague reference to their location and then you're set out.

Is that the actual Neocron 2 or is it the supposed expansion pack that was then renamed a new game and made people that wanted to play the glorfied expansion pay to transfer their neocron characters and a very limited set of items?

I know it's a tired cliche to say about MMOs, but when I read about that joke of a rip off it made me glad I quit when the devs turned into a bunch of wimps and caved in to every whining demand. Seems they got their spine back to rip the players off.

It had cool lore at least. We need more sci-fi MMOs out there. At least the deluge of generic fantasy world MMOs is finally receding with a rash of cancellations.

we have a scifi MMO.. anarchy online.

AO was okay in beta but none of the bugs got fixed so it was a flaming pile of dog shit at release. I mean worse then EQ was if that is possible. THe main difference being that EQ had no real competition except UO.

AO in it's current incarnation is pretty good. I think the high end is broken and alien invasion is retarded but the base game is pretty cool for a change a pace. It has some very well done design elements. However the game just runs out of steam.

I would suggest giving it a quick look though. You can buy it for 5 bucks and give it a shot for a month. Just a thought.

And in regards to neo2, it's basically just a really huge expansion that they've labeled as "neocron2" to avoid confusion with new players thinking they'd need the original neocron client.

Same shit, different years :\
