WoW - GM Events?

Anyone have the scoop on possible plans for GM events in WoW?

God I hope not, unless they vastly improve on EQ's model.

Only EQ GM event I recall having fun at was Bloody Kithicor. The rest were a bunch of assbaggers trying to roleplay for the phat lewtz.

If my memory serves me well, they plan to make events, but they will be scripted events with NPCs. No GM on power trip running around and death touching people.

From the recent Q&A (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/threa...p=1#post197451)

Quote:
Does Blizzard have a team for designing world events, role-playing content, etc.?

We do have a world event team that will be in charge of maintaining and adding to the calendar of events that will span across the world. World of Warcraft is structured to have world events, contests and other social events regularly so that events can be experienced by all players. The event system, and the world event team that will run it, will ensure that players will always have something to do beyond the quests and activities that players participate in on a day-to-day basis. We don't want to tip our hand just yet, but you can look forward to celebrating real-world and Azeroth-based holidays, world events like having a Human zeppelin raid The Crossroads, worldwide fishing contests and much, much more!

i think it would be fun to have GM teams play extra large, special characters. let's say 3 for each side. the 3 horde could go around and rally people to follow and they could meet the 3 alliance, who had done the same thing, on some battlefield. they could have special buffs and offensive capabilities. last man standing type of think, maybe.

dunno what you could do as a reward. I guess if all the opposing side is wiped out, the remaining people on the winning side could have statues made of them or something. Not sure what the limitations would be for Blizzard to do something like that.

EQ GM events were so bad, that after I had played for a month or two and experienced my first one, I just shut them out and pretended they didn't exist.

I never regretted this stance either; everyone I know that did participate was dissapointed.

There was a post made by BWhittle (I believe) saying that they wouldn't have GM events, because GMs wouldn't run any events; instead, the World Event Team (WET™:P) would create periodic scripted events that affected everyone on the server. Indirectly, he was indicating that GMs are too stupid to make useful events, that they're only there for helping players and being nazi rule followers.

I don't think the WoW GMs are capable of handling a GM event, much less an actual petition.

I prefered going to the next step on the asshole ladder and trying to ruin the event for said people roleplaying their little hearts out for a bottle of Fizzlecutter 5000

So tell me, are you complaining that people were trying to roleplay at all, or that the only reason they were was to get "phat lewtz"?

I'll never forget the GM event on legends that had people show up to ToV and have to kill vulak in an hour. The only problem was every newb showed up and you had to clear everything in ToV to get there. So you had 200+ newbs running around training each other and getting their shit wrecked and wiping the raid.

I quickly transfered back to a regular server since that was proof enough GM events were gay no matter how much extra you pay.

Gm events were great pre-kunark in EQ. After that point, they made alot of changes to the guide system and severly cut back on dynamic events (and events in general)...eventually they all ended up becoming "read from script no adlib thx" or slaughter happy moments with no storyline.

Roleplaying I have no problem with. If someone does it well, it's pretty cool. It's the people who's normal vocabulary consists of LOL u f4g trying to throw out Thee's and Thou's that got on my nerves.

Mainly because the guides would take the scripts and pass them out in full to guildmates/friends and everyone would park their ass in the spot they knew the event would occur to rake in fat loot.

The only way any of these events are going to work is with paid employee's and as you would need more then is cost effective to run an actual event I don't see any option other then a good robust scripting system.

The problem with EQ, is that the GM events were so few and far inbetween, that when they happened people flocked to them like flies to shit.

If events happened on a daily baises, even small ones that didnt take much time/effort, then the "oh gee wow!" factor of a bigger event wouldnt draw the same ammount of people.

When a big event happens once every X months, and thats it for a while, people flock to see whats going on, but if big events happened a few times a month with lots of small/medium events inbetween, it would of been much better.
