| WoW: What type of Server? I used to play EQ in PVE server, mainly due retarded aspects of EQ PVP and gameplay design in EQ that was geared only towards PVE. Now if I understand correctly, in WoW there has been few months of testing in 2 enviroments, alliance vs horde PVP enviroment and normal PVE servers. In these PVE servers the 2 factions are just crippled so they can not group and in some cases communicate with each other, but they can't kill each other without consent. Sounds and most likely is, in the long run quite boring. :-( PVP with 2 teams sounds much more fun. I used to play in "uber" guild that scored few serverwide firsts in EQ and our old "uber" guild is midigating into PVP-alliance server most likely when the game is released. In my MMORPG history, I also played in few semi-casual raiding guilds that where always just about 1 expansion behind the ubers in EQ. These two semi-casual raiding guilds that I was part of are going to stick in PVE gameplay. Question is, what will be the preffered way to play WoW among the old hardcore EQ players? Are old guilds planning on going to PVP server now that it seems like a good option or are they going to stick into oldschool PVE ala-la everquest? I'm Just wondering, but the feeling I'm having that the biggest change that WoW is going to bring to the table of MMORPG's is change from almost 100% PVE centered gameplay into hybrid of PVE and PVP ala-la alliance vs. horde PVP server. Any thoughts?

+16 Internets | This depends on the quality of PVP, what is available in PVE(They could have instanced battlegrounds in PVE without upsetting the PVE system really, like the Arena's in EQ), and which guild I'll be joining for WoW. I put 'I dunno' |

| PvE more than likely, unless they make some very interesting changes to their PvP ruleset. But then, I've never been much of a PvP'er, probably because killing random strangers just doesn't do anything for me. If I want to slaughter other people, I'll load up a FPS and call up some friends. Then we'll have a good chuckle later on about who sucks and who doesn't. MMORPG PvP = meh, especially with strangers. |

| ss For me I can't imagine playing a mmorpg without pvp. I mean I could if it made sense... city of heroes comes to mind, superheroes pvping each other doesn't make sense. But Warcraft? Come on that is what the entire world is based on, the conflict between orcs and humans. A pve server really sounds silly in warcraft's world. If they had a pve server for wow then I think they should have 2 servers, 1 where all the players are human, and you can fight and attack and raid the orc areas which will be filled with orc npc's only, and 1 server with all orc players who can do vice versa. That conflict of human vs orc is integral to the warcraft storyline and lore. The way pve is setup now for pvp server will be lame as hell. I think it would destroy my gaming experience if I was with a group somewhere exping, and 5 feet from me was a opposite side exping next to us. So what should we do? We ks each other? We can't attack, we can't even say we were there first, because they won't understand, we can't group with them either. It sounds like PvE will have some big headaches, maybe as many headaches as a pvp server, just different kinds. I got bored to tears with city of heroes since it was just pve, I really just need things to mix it up. pvp is good for me because it is always challenging. I really can't understand how people wouldn't like pvp. I am not saying you guys are wusses or carebears, to each his own I say, honestly I just don't see PVE wow being quite the game as PVP wow. | I play MMORPGs purely for the cooperative aspect of the games, therefore I will play on a PvE server. My main goals while playing that sort of games is to defeat encounters and make friends in the process. To me, the challenges provided by the game are more interesting than the challenges provided by other players. That said, I understand perfectly that people may want to play PvP to increase their gaming experience. It's just not my style. |

| PvE. The battlegrounds thing that has been mentioned, but still not confirmed, would be enough for me. Unlike EQ's Arena, Blizzard wants to give incentives to fight in the battlegrounds, and it'll be more then just a zone that allows pvp. It sounds like it'll be something fun to do even if no one else is in the zone, you can sit there and kill spawning NPC's from the other side. A striaght up PVP server is just a gankfest, and that's not fun to me. I'm more interested in tests of skill and tactics. Not seeing a warrior behind you, and thus him getting a jump on you, is not an accurate representation of skill. Or someone jumping you while your fighting mobs etc.. The PvE servers are still different from regular MMORPGs, in that if one of the factions attacks the others towns, they all get PvP flagged. Plus, the battlegrounds instances already mentioned still allow a moderate amount of PvP. As far as exping next to another group, while I'm not in beta, it doesn't seem to happen at all. All the real dungeons are instanced, and those that aren't don't seem a likely place for seperate faction groups to exp. If there are no alliance quests in the area, and it's far from alliance lands (merchants, trainers etc..), doesn't seem that alliance members have much incentive to want to be there. |

| I sincerely believe that all the interesting PvP aspects will make it onto the normal servers. And by interesting I mean where you don't have lvl 45 PKers ganking lvl 20-30 players. Or groups of lvl 60s running around killing solo players. I see no reason to play on a PvPer server at all. Having said all of that, I am currently on the PvPer server, since PvP is currently non-existant on the normal server. |

+5 Internets | . Pretty sure I'm gonna go with the 4th option, "Flag anyone on a mining node or gathing a herb full on pvp for 2minutes regardless of faction" ding ding we have a winner. |

| Nothing is less rewarding to me then killing someone I don't know for no good reason...No, wait...Getting killed by someone I don't know for no good reason is. I think PvP should be left to games designed around it, not as an afterthought. It is one of few things that have impressed me with they EQ2 team; that they chose to not have PvP at all over having it done half-assed.
