| Blizzard offers In game item for buying collectors edition of WoW: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/threa...p=1#post197369 Didn't see this posted already. EQ1's been offering special in game items for exp packs for a while now. CoH offered special graphic effects on pre-orders. EQ2 is offering in game Jboots + talking statues for your house and now blizzard is offering, well, typical blizzard flavor items. How long will it be before we are literally paying to beta test? +12 Internets | I have no problem with in-game items being given out for collector's edition or beta'ing the game. Unless that item gives the character power, that is. A mechanical goblin that is for looks only is only going to help sales and give players something to enjoy. |

This is marketing 101 and is no big deal. Blizzard is giving out fluff items, unlike SOE who is actually giving something out that makes a character more powerful.

| http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/210351.asp normal edition, 50 bones. http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/242464.asp collector's edition, 80 bones. They've done that for every release. I can't remember what they offered with their warcraft/diablo collector editions, but I do remember a muchos higher cost box on shelves. Personally I save the 30 bucks for the box without all the dinky extras, but i'm not a diehard blizzard fanatic. btw: omg they're making a Sims 2? They finally gave up on making xpac after xpac for the original Sims? Holy crap! Last edited by Iannis : 08-13-2004 at 09:24 AM. |

Now, as to the actual "useful" part of your post, IF that doesn't change before release, there can still be cases where instant cast jboots will make the difference between life and death. If, like most games, it considers you "in combat" after the first hit has been exchanged, and not after the monster aggros on you, you may have a second or two to activate the buff and run off when you see the mob turn and head towards you. Likewise, if you are crossing a mobs aggro range, being able to cross it faster minimizes the chances that it will catch up to you before you leave it's aggro range. But that's just one potential boost that this would offer. What if you WANT to engage in combat? What if you are racing another character to a named mob? Or even more general, if your travelling time is significantly reduced, won't your levelling speed increase? What if, like WoW, there are timed quests at lower levels, wouldn't a speed increase make it easier to accomplish these quests? But hey, what the fuck do I know, it's not like I'm playing the final release version with the collector's item like you guys are.
