Vendetta Online??

Thought I would take a break from the EQ2 vs. WoW brawl and add this to the mix.

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/s.../1/gameID/154/

What's you guys opinion on this one? Will it go the way of Earth and Beyond or does it stand a remote chance?

This comes out in less than a month?

At least I had heard of EaB. Doesn't matter how great your game is if you're not advertising it beyond Fantasy boards.

Games like these have a ton of potential on console but will never succeed on PC. There's just not enough interest. RPGs were at their peak just prior to MMORPGs. Flight/Space Sims were at their peak in the early 90s with Chris Roberts.

Other than Freelancer I haven't played a space-sim since the mid 90s. And I used to buy half a dozen a year. So if no one can make a single player space-sim anymore, how the hell can anyone make an enjoyable online one in the age of "Release now, release often"?

A question they will have to answer by releasing a good game first.

After looking at the screens (with vertical pathing clearly evident) I realized this is yet another engine that doesn't support space flight. EaB did the same thing. Nothing more fun than trying to pull a tight manuever and finding zone limitations that bounce you around and act like you have your back to a Black Hole. Christ people, make an engine that works truly 3-dimensionally before putting space ships in it. Grrrr.

Basically if you want to make a space sim. Go buy a bargin bin copy of Wing Commander: Prophecy which is what half a decade old? You'll notice a few things in this 'ancient' game with it's extraordinarily outdated 16meg graphics:

Notice how you can go anywhere and not 'bump' against invisible walls?

Notice how you can dogfight other fighters using captial ships for gravity while dodging in and out of turrets and even flying through the hanger?

Notice that objects like asteroids arent just in front of you, but above you and below you in 'real-time' collision, even hitting each other? Larger ones can be used as gravity anchors.

But again, that costs money. And it's hard work to boot!

Coder: Why not use an existing 2-d engine and just add a z-axis?

Dev: Brilliant!

The objective today (ironically the 2 most bashed companies SOE/Blizzard are not included) in online gaming is making as much cash as you can while minimizing technology, then getting the fuck out of Dodge. Technical innovation is impractical and costly. What's this company called again, and what has it released?

I rest my case.

Aye, I kinda thought that the game being incognito until 1 month prior to release is risky. Maybe they are trying to go the route of CoH and be a sleeper?

They also mention that the game has 6-degrees of movement, but the screenshot suggest otherwise. They also say that it would take 2 days of real life to fly from one end of the world to another, which suggest another Eve issue where the world is so big that you never see anyone else.

Still tho, if done right (and think it will be a challenge) it could draw from the eve fanbase and perhaps some of the Lost EnB customers. I guess time will tell.

This looks like a very gimp version of EVE-Online, which is growing up pretty well btw.

fair play to em, they only have 4 people in the entire team, but as none of them have the experience of doing anything like this, chances are its going to fall flat on its face.

I hope it doesnt, I mean good on them for making some money, then branching into mmogs.

CoH isnt a sleeper, i first heard about it like 2-3yrs ago?

everyone thought it was gunna be great, i can be superman yay!

but it was the same time as horizons, and both went off radar for a while. so the assumption was more vaporware.
