Sony Online Entertainment and online retailer ebgames.com are trying to make the decision easier for you by offering a "starter kit" to anyone who preorders the game via its website, granting purchasers a number of interesting perks. The special preorder kit will include a version of the character creation tool that'll ship with the game, which will allow players to customize the appearance of their future avatars. They'll also get early access to their account keys, guaranteeing ythat they'll be able to reserve their desired in-game names. Most controversial, however, is a bonus item: a pair of Journeyman Boots. This bit of gear, which was quite rare in the original EQ, provides characters a substantial increase in their movement speed. While this isn't the type of thing that will cause any sort of serious imbalance, it is interesting that SOE would essentially allow players to buy in-game currency with real-life cash, potentially giving some players a slight advantage over others. It should be interesting to see if gamers scoop up the special offer, or if the balk at the idea completely. EverQuest II is currently slated for a November release.
