For those who say they are bored in WOW...

Just asking this to judge whether game content/gameplay or player interaction is a stronger motivator for logging in.

Beta can be difficult in that not everything is completed AND not everyone you might want to play with is playing. Which impacts you more?

Guild didn't have any impact on me because nobody was raiding when I was playing. Game was def more funner when friends were online to group with, but it wasn't always the best for my xp bar... which I didn't like. But group of friends > solo, I just wish it was more rewarding.

Simple fix to the whole "single player" thing people are bitching about = group xp bonuses. Duh.

Group xp bonus is not enough really, because the xp is not the only problem.

The quest system is anti-group as it stands with no quest sharing of some sort.

But more importantly, regular mobs offer absolutely no challenge for a full group. None. On top of that, they die so fast that 90% of the abbilities in the game become useless. You just have to use the fastest dps abbilities you have (and if you are a warlock you get to see the mob die before your nuke 3s cast time is over). And to put the cherry on top, even with the pretty fast respawn time, a full group also has a tough time finding enough mobs to keep busy.

The elite content is fun though since it's actually balanced with a group of players in mind. That is to me the only fun part of the game in its current state. It's serious fun too.

Is it possible to level to 20ish and then go from elite dungeon to elite dungeon? Maybe... but there are not that many of them so you would have to go through the same ones over and over again to reach the level that allows you to go to the next one. And I am not sure at the 7th run it would be that fun...

I love WoW

But everything is transient, including the people. This has a negative impact on the enjoyability of the game. If they don't make the quest system more group-friendly they're going to have this problem at launch all the same.

Thoughtful suggestions to this end would be helpful.

best way for "group friendlyness" would be to have questshare be native to the ui....

it is a HUGE benefit to those that use it.

other stuff no idea, i've never been bored in wow - even solo (course i tend to take on things 3-5 levels over me to get a challenging fight)

I personally don't understand why I'm able to solo mobs 5 levels higher than me. In my opinion without the use of potions or outside buffs no class should ever be able to solo a mob 1 level higher than them without it being a close fight and soloing mobs equal to your level should be in no way efficient compared to grouping. Of course that would lead this more to the grouping game that all the battle.net kiddies don't want but if Blizzard ever wants to evolve past them they need to realize this is a MMORPG, not a MMOAG (Action Game). Blizzard's previous games worked because they were meant to be played on a very small scale, with close friends, and even solo. This isn't one of those kinds of games.

I haven't joined a guild because every guild invite I've gotten has been from some random person I don't know and have never spoken to before. Silvermana = newb guild kthx.

This really wouldn't fix the core issue. If you don't have any quests that match, you're still out of luck.

World of Warcraft (at the moment) due to the quest system is best played with 2-3 people who are close friends of yours. If you all play at the exact same time.

I play in a mage+warrior+priest group -- that NEVER varies. It's the same core group of 3 people. All of our quests are completely synchronized (for the most part) because we don't quest without each other. Finding one or two more people for an elite quest if needed is far easier than finding five.

That being said, the quest system while extremely nice is too strict. There needs to be some sort of "pickup" system where a person can get the quest with you without having to run across the entire zone (or in some cases, entire world).

As it stands, with the setup we have, it's perfection. WoW couldn't be more enjoyable because of -how- we play and make sure our quests synch up all the time. The nightmare of not doing it was just too much. IF for some reason you're not on at the same time, there's always tradeskills. Which are immensely fun.

It's a benefit to us because we made it a benefit. It *is* too restrictive however.

Edit: A decent solution might be to allow someone to "share" their quest story with you -- so you can pick up that quest at any given time. (As long as it's not a "tiered" quest, where you go through a series to get to the end)

So what I'm getting from this thread is that questing and grouping in WoW is similar to pick-up PoP flagging raids but on a smaller scale.

Yuck.

Quest Share window is the best part of Cosmos.

Having to listen to Thott's stupid fucking THOTTBOT IS FULL. THOTTBOT GOING TO GO TO SLEEP NOW is the gayest part of Cosmos. I don't care when you log on and off, thott. Thanks for the rest tho!

Furor's screenshots look like he has a different UI. =P wanna share the wealth? the normal one is cruddy, and cosmos mostly only adds a crapload more hotbanks for me to use (and quest share).

It's like CoH. You have to find enemies a more powerful than you, because you just steamroll those near your level in a group. Of course, life gets needlessly complicated to do that when you can just solo pretty darn effectively in the first place. If you're a few steps ahead you have to help the group catch up, or if you're a few steps behind you're just spending your time helping the further progressed while your own quests receive nothing.

It's a bit of a nuisance to stay in a group for a long time, unless everyone is at the same stages and has the same stuff to run. People who transfered over with friends can do it easily enough, but pick-up grouping for a long period is hurt by how questing works. Only real good places are Elite quests, since people really HAVE to group to do those (I think even someone with a grey elite still couldn't solo it.)

I pity people who don't stack their Elite quests efficiently though. Har.

Some of the boredom might be a result of there being no end-game.. I'd imagine that some of these hard core people coming from uber everquest guilds can probably get bored without the prospect uber zones, mobs, and loot in sight. Instead it's just questing or killing non-uber shit in a small group rather than uber shit in a dedicated raid force.
