EQ2 Lore... still sucks.

This is off the character creation CD apparently.

http://forums.eldarele.com/forums/ph...pic.php?p=4659

It's basically PoP continued, it's still badly written, and it still means the Gods are an amorphous commitee which hates the players more than their eternal opposite. From a roleplaying point of view this means each character must regard the gods as enemies.

Don't they realize they've reduced roleplaying by changing the gods from virtues you can base a character on into a gang of mobs?

I think you need to write an article about this in Roleplay magazine...you seem to have vivid devotion to a game and worshiping fake 'gods' created by people who pull their names out of a random name generator or something. It's retarded. I always thought the whole 'god' thing was retarded in eq. But maybe that's just me. I liked hanging out with people and doing stuff together vs. bowing down to my computer...but yea thats just me.

hahaha, the gods hate mortals. I'd hate you too, if you raided me every week after my phat lewtz.

EQ2 lore is goofy, but that's because no position exists in there to actually maintain a consistent version of it.

Personally I'd see WoW having more opportunity to fuck up their lore. We already know EverQuest has a shaky story at best...but Warcraft has tried to maintain some consistency between their RTS games.

What's up with these level 60+ superdemons hanging around the world? (the game will only get bigger, more badass demons as time grows and uberguilds level up) Shit, if I was a level 60 burning legion demon I would just destroy the damn world myself: fuck all the effort of zerging bloodthirsty orcs through dimensional rifts.

This was my version It still involves killing gods and stealing their loot of course. I'm not an RP nazi, but this stuff is meant to motivate you if it has any purpose at all.

Tunare: "My elves and I have come to an agreement for the new age, and working together my new followers are currently clearing the plane of hate once and for all!"
Inooruuk: "wtf?"
Tunare: "The most powerful amongst them I have sworn into service as the new emerald guard, and even now we work to reclaim Takis'Hiz from the sands."
Solusek Ro: "omg!"
Tunare: "I call upon all Elves, and loyal allies, to stand with me and mine as we re-forge the world to be free of the old evils"
Cazic-Thule: "uh-oh".

Man, I'd sign up for that in a second. Whereas in their version, as a high elf, all I know is that Tunare would rather team up with Innoruuk, CT and Solusek Ro rather than me. You'd have to call her either insane or an enemy.

Not sure what you are referring to in WoW. But having the leaders of a faction not being personally undefeatable is actually better. It means they need to use players, perhaps PC's, to carry out their plans.

Its all about gameplay anyways. Fuck the lore. Would you play EQ2 if it had the best lore in history and shit gameply? Probably not.

how does it limit roleplaying?

It's a world where the gods are unhappy at the mortals (and rightfully so). That does not determine the relationship your characters has with the gods.

The whole gods thing in EQ is was and always will be totally pointless as SOE well knows. People found this out initially when Fear and Hate were first opened and "worshippers" of CT and Innoruk couldn't even talk to them, much less get quests or anything else. So this goes back to Brads vision, has nothing to do with SOE. They basically admitted the gods were glorified mobs by releasing PoP. Certain dumbasses still didn't get it though..."But I am ze holy paladin, why won't my lord Marr talk to meh!???"

The new lore seems like its just the prequel to them destroying the world or whatever to set the stage for EQ2. They already said the gods will play no role in EQ2, but players get to discover what happened or whatever.

You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you.

My lore for EQ2?

At some point the snakeman emperor up there on the moon says "man, I'm fucking bored. StarGate: Atlantis isn't as good as the original." So he decides it's high time to try to eat the gods again, especially considering mortals already decimated the powerbase of the evil gods in PoP, and tampering with the planes of discord only further fucks up the equilibrium of the cosmos.

So at some point between the storylines for EQ1 and EQ2 (so as to not interfere with milking EQ1 until the last subscribers cancel) a huge orgy of shit blowing up occurs as he summons the gods and tries to DT them, but they zerg him and Solusek Ro manaburns, and DragonBall Z scenes ensue, the moon gets blown all to hell, but with the protection of Sam 'da man' Deathwalker (6th ranked best EverQuest player) the Kilrathi/Kerrans/vah shir are saved: you see, he logs on all his wizards at once and is able to evac them to Norrath. In the aftermath all the gods are either dead or unable to corporealize anymore.

All except for Mayong Mistmoore, and the vampire butler of his castle, Aakla.

I bet my lore is better than whatever the official EQ2 manual is going to spout off.

EQ2 takes place during the time when the gods turn away from the races. If you read the lore from GoD and OoW you'd *start* to understand why the gods arent in EQ2.
