WoW or EQ2

First off, lets try to avoid the bashing that goes on and have a civil conversation if possible.

Id just like to know what each game brings to the table, months ago i quit EQ and im "was" waiting patiently for WoW,..but after reading up more on EQ and seeing the movies avail for DL i dont think WoW is for me anymore. WoW looks beautiful for the type of graphics and style its using, but i think if i want to put a x800 to use id have to lean more towards EQ2, now thats just graphic wise.

Lore, i havent read up much on either of the lore of WoW or EQ2, but for RTS i never cared much for WC since it sucked, but the concept of a mmorpg seemed to look very promising, and i suppose i just got caught up with the hype of a EQ killer after playin 5 years and being shafted on Cust Support. I've been wondering if all the "EQ sucks ass WoW will be 2nd coming of christ" ppl just hate SoE or is WoW just that dam good, everyone that i have talked to about it said wow is alot of fun and would pay to play beta, thats kool and all but even with fun i want visual greatness, EQ2 "may" deliver that and it may not, but from what i have been reading the last 2 weeks it seems EQ2 may deliver.

WoW may be a EQ killer in some ways, but i bet over half of you who say you wont touch EQ2 will end up eventually playing it if it delivers what is says it can. Before the bashing starts, remember i dont play either, i think EQ sucks and is only good as a chat program, but that doesnt reflect any opinions on EQ2.

Unfortunately I haven't played either. So this is just going by what I see and read.

Graphics:

I like nice looking stuff but, I really don't care which is better than the other in this case. These are games where you buy and play for months and months. By then you care more about fun than gfx.

Animations:

I care about this far more than graphics. If they can't make nice fight, casting, or social animations then I don't want to play. I look at my character the entire time I play so I don't want to be constantly disgusted by how I swing a weapon.

EQ2 is losing here for me. When I saw some of the movements in videos I had Luclin flashbacks.

Lore:

I think what's important here is how good of a story they tell. Blizzard wins this contest easily. Since I'm not in either beta, I can only judge them on past works.

Blizzard games so far have been at least interesting. In some cases the story was well done. There's also tons of stuff to read if you care.

SoE...well...PoP was the biggest clusterfuck of a story. And let's not forget how they ripped off and perverted an overused bit in Plane of Time. The whole captain planet transformers power rangers bullshit was a bit too much.

Hype, Anticipation:

EQ2 wins this easily. WoW has been hyped A LOT for a Long time. People have made this thing out to be a game that will give you orgasms. By contrast people bash the hell out of EQ2 constantly. Well, maybe SoE more than EQ2, but it transfers.

WoW has a long way to fall when people see it may not be what it's been hyped as. EQ2 has a lot of room to grow when people see it's not the seed of satan.

Gameplay:

Hard to say. Anything will be a blind guess. Everything I've read about both seem interesting enough. Gonna have to wait for EQ2 beta i guess.

High end:

This is what will make or break for me. It doesn't take much time to get through the game. That is, unless you create a painfully slow grind that punishes people for coming into existence. Once you get to the top you need a lot of content to enjoy and good reasons for doing them.

I am looking forward to WoW. I'll say the only problem I am having right now deciding on which of the two to play...as I will only play one...is that I can see WoW being very competitive in leveling and content getting blazed through WAY too fast, because so many people will know all the in's and out's by the time it is released.
With such a long and complete beta, we're going to see alot of people that already KNOW the game, and these will be the people that folks like me...unlucky when it comes to getting a beta slot...are going to be competing against on PvP servers where they know the sweet spots to level or the best quests to get items from.
Having months of time to learn the game on me seems to be a hefty advantage, and not one I am fond of.

Forgot to add....

I'll probably end up playing both. My GF doesn't care much about WoW. She's already said she wants to play EQ2 regardless so I know there will end up being a copy here.

If both games look and play good, then the deciding factor for me will be high end content.

As a troll, I would have to say this is the most accurate statement I've seen in a while that captures how it will al be settled in the end.

I havent played EQ in about 3 years but EQ2 has much more of my interest than WOW. I had trouble figuring out what was going on in the WOW screenshots posted for the higher level, it just looked like a cartoon to me. I was never a power gamer either so maybe I dont have the SOE bashing bias...

Just play the god damn game and enjoy it! If Blizzard hears you whine, I cant get a job with them!
EQ2 and future mmorpgs will do the same. Suck one persons dick and their guild will follow. It pretty much guarentees they'll not only break even, but do quite well for that first 6 months. And that's all that matters. Fuck longevity, it costs too much and requires you to have a real staff. And try keeping those coders in place long enough, when other companies want to build their 6 month mmorpg and can afford to pay more in the short-term. There ain't gonna be anymore EQs. You can't get what is now considered the "Best of the best" coders/developers in each catagory mainly because they keep changing jobs every 6 months for a bigger paycheck. Anyone following the hirings of these people know exactly what I'm talking about. (Hello Vanguard! Bye Vanguard!) Ask yourself...

When was the last "big thing"?

I heard quite a few people make the claim CoH was more fun than WoW. How many are still playing CoH? And yet it and SWG sold more units in their first month than any US based mmorpg ever. Mission Success!

Welcome to the age of "Fast food" MMORPGs. I knew all those allegories in Whineplay werent' a coincedence. And worse it's been created by the same people who claim they hate it. Well guess what folks the only way to stop it is to not have 250,000 people buy CoH in the first 2 weeks because someone on a famous board said it was good.

Hell, any company planning long term is just being dumb at this point.

Here's my civil conversation. Why the fuck did you start yet another thread on this goddamn topic?

Wanna know something? Some people will play EQ2. Some people will play WoW. Some people will play both. Some people will play neither.

There isn't anything mystical about it, and there certainly isn't anything worth discussing across 982734987 threads.

What's wrong with a mmorpg you play for only a few months? Nothing. Previously, you would buy pc/console games and beat them in 1 week or less. $50 spent and gone. If you buy a game for $50, first month free, then pay $15/month for 2-3 months...well shit that's a winner.

Even though, I seriously doubt SoE and Blizzard have no interest in keeping people subscribed for years. They will continue adding content one way or another and try to keep fans happy. If they have to hire new people, then they will. Big deal.

But from what I hear about Blizzard, it's a great place to work. If any employee wants to comment, feel free. No clue about SoE.

As for high end guilds getting into games...well good. There's at least a glimmer of hope that what I care about will get addressed.

Well, at least we know the lore in WOW will be consistant.

SoE made me sad with EQ ;( Especially Luclin. Luclin was like Final Fantasy 4 in terms of a shit ending to an interesting storyline. They build up Golbez to be the big badass, then out of nowhere Xeromus appears and he's the real badguy, even though there has been NOTHING mentioned about him. What the fuck.

You just described the ff8 Ultimecia ending!

Whoops, the sorcess is evil. WHOOPS there's a worse one out orbiting the moon. WHOOPS forgot to mention if this big magnetic rock is put into a specific place on the earth it calls down all the demons on the moon. WHOOPS some random sorceress from the year 10,000 has been manipulating events using some clown-scientists time travel helmet!

Fags have spent the last 45 months owning blizzard and molding their fanbase into sheep, so of course the game will suck. what else do you expect

the majority of you pets will end up right back in EQ

A-fuckin'-men. If you wanna talk about this shit go to one of the threads I started, or some other existing thread. We don't need a new one FFS.
