| WoW ingame GM's Does anyone have an idea of what type of GM system they will use? Will they use like one server GM per server and some guides/lesser GM's below him? Floating GM's that go where they are needed most? Will they have a guide system for volunteer's? How much power will a GM/guide have to make up a quest or event spur of the moment stile? |

+1 Internets | I read it a while ago but, Blizzard said they will note have a Guide Program like EQ. So im guessing that all GMs+ will be Blizzard employs, which I think is good. Helps in areas like A) No guides that never passed level 20 in-game and are good for nothing but telling higher level GMs you need help. B) People who use their GM powers to help themselves/others in uninteeded ways. Thinking that someone might take the risk of loosing their GM status, but not a flow of income. C) ummm, anything else.

| Can I just say to anyone on the Rathe here, GM Vaylin is one of the GMs. Yeah, that's bad news, but he seems pretty helpful.

+5 Internets | Guides (and GMs for that matter) should be required to have at least taken at least 1 character to max level. Many of the EQ 'guides' were just useless to anyone but true newbies. |

| That's pretty interesting Bog. You should post it on the RTA.

| It wont be unlikely to see GMs from EQ in WoW, their bases of operation are 90 minutes apart. As of last week they were filling in their last GM positions. I'm sure in the upcoming weeks we'll hear about an Advocate/Guide program once all the GM positions are filled. |

| I would imagine that Blizzard put a fair amount of effort into making GM's unnecessary. Think of most of the stuff GM's are petitioned for: bugged mobs/quests, corpses ending up where they shouldn't be, etc. With a little coding forethought and error checking 90% of the stuff people needed GMs for could be easily eliminated. Then you could just boil it down to voluteer players that answer your mundane newbie questions. |

+34 Internets | Some? Guides are good for nothing, not a damn thing, except changing your last name. On a PvP server, the rules that they 'follow' change from day to day, hour to hour, hell, I've seen them change 5 fucking minutes later. On a blue server, they're inept, hands tied behind their back and are only good for elevating your petition for a GM to read, which may take him or her anywhere from 24-72 hours to get around to. I honestly hope that WoW's GM system is more akin to that of the old GM system in EQ...back when GM's cared about the game enough to answer your petition directly -- even something as lame as "Hi, I can't find my corpse." -- and try to help you out the best they could. Back when it wasn't a big 'no-no' to send a GM/Guide a direct tell and actually expect something useful back from it. Hell, there were times the server GM would send ME a tell, just out of the blue, and we'd talk about things like bugs in the game, upcoming policy changes (read: reinforcements) in The Vision, the political atmosphere of the server, you name it. The GMs on VZ always knew what was up back in the day, they made damn sure they did. |

The only thing that FAQ says is there will be no volunteer guide program. One of the reasons I mentioned "advocates". It'd be awfully shortsighted otherwise. | |

| For the sake of customer service. The GM's better be abundant. Hell one time not too long ago my main toon was erased on The Rathe Server for whatever reason. I never found out why he got erased and it took me close to 2 weeks to get a GM response. The guides can do utter SHIT other than escalate your petition and my petition got erased like 5 times do to patches during that week with the quick casino patches. I was so close to quiting EQ but didn't want my 3 year character just gone so I stuck it out and waited for the response. ![]() |
