| Dumbing WoW down even more than the dev's can Take a look at this thread. I was wondering what the more hardcore MMOG player's opinions on this are. I'm pretty sure all the RTS and RPG kiddies love it (less "frustrating" MMO basics for them to deal with) and blizzard in all its ignorance seems to be supporting it too. To me it looks like some kind of tool that almost let's the game play itself for you. Auto-buff-refresh? Come on... However, I'm not a beta player and I know a bunch of you are, I also think I saw Kruegen say he used EScript - which made me wonder. So if there's any use to this thing except dumbing the game down even more than the developers do themselves, I'd like to hear it. |

| People've been bitching about it on the beta boards, too, but if you read the stickies on the UI forum, they WANT people to break the UI as much as they can in it's current form--basically, they want to get an idea of what people can do to the current UI so they know what to restrict. If this form of customizable UI makes it into retail, I'll be very surprised. --Shard |

| that is worded wrong- you still need the recipe to do the combine (unless i missed something i only have the recipes i know listed in the tradeskill window) what it SHOULD be worded is make multiple of the same product without having to CLICK the recipe combine button more than once. currently in game if you want to make 10 potions of lesser healing you have to click on the recipe combine button 10 times with cosmos you click the arrow and put in 10 then the script does 10 combines when you click combine(once). it still takes the same AMOUNT of time but drastically reduces the clicking. its pretty nice, i use it. personally i'd make the autobuff things not work but leave most of the rest of the functionality. autoloot takes a bit of getting used to but it rocks one click bang looted instant quest text- is nice. moving the mouseover target to the top center beats the HELL out of the old spot(lower right). being able to resize chat boxes is nice but quest share omfg that better make it into the game... no more "ok what quests do you have" ok i have xxx yyy zzz aaa bbb ccc hmm i got xxx zzz but not yyy person 3 goes i got yyy aaa and ccc person four goes i got ddd eee and mmm etc one button click and a list of everyone in your groups - if they have quest share- a master quest list appears with everyone's quests listed, WITH how far along they are...and it keeps track of the pieces they loot. that is a huge timesaver. |

+5 Internets | The problem I have is that paladin buffs last about 5 minutes and it's a real pain in the arse to rebuff your group constantly every 5 minutes. The autobuff portion of Cosmos is very useful... i'd be for disallowing it if they would just increase the duration of Paladin buffs. I've always used EScript/Cosmos and most of the features seem just fine to me. Syrin Level 30 Paladin |

| Great! Wow, add on programs already being developed for WoW? Holy shit, this thing is only in Beta1! This kind of worries me. I firmly believe that there should not be any 2nd party programs allowed at all. By makin shit easyer/less time intensive ruins the overall game mechanics and should be treated like an exploit. Just wait untill some real geeks get a hold of the beta or live version of this game. The true cheats will be out in no time. I hope Blizzard truly think about the use of 2nd party programs this could eventually break the game, ala AC1 |

+16 Internets | I believe the official word on these scripts is what Shardanaan said, they want people to exploit the UI as much as possible so they can see what people want to do. I think by release, Blizzard might incorporate some of the features(ShareQuest) into their UI, but depending on how far these UI's go, they'll probably stop that functionality somehow. I think the amount of custimization in the UI is pretty limitless, especially with different clients being able to communicate this easily. I don't doubt that there will be games of Chess in the game at some point in the future, which would be very cool sometimes. I 'still' want to see a UI mod that can communicate with my aim client, so I effectively have AIM inside my computer, as well as IRC even, that would make me happy(Alt-tab is so 20th century). I haven't worked with WoW's XML abilities so I can't comment on what would work too much, but I'm betting that it wouldn't be impossible to create bots that could solo mobs while ones sleeps, hell, some of the diablo2 bots could play better than players in a controlled environment(Cow levels), even very good players, once you configured the bots right. I'm not sure what I think about the buff-bot, personally, it removes a factor of the game that may be annoying(especially for EQ people that are used to casting buff spells every hour or so). Given the choice I would most likely use the buff bot myself, but it does make the game easier. |

Just look how 2nd party programs fucked up EQ with the crafting macros. Turn a 5 gold profit margin on a combine into 1,000 of plat while AFK. | |

+16 Internets | My first third party program was a pestle that I was able to place on a key to keep me doing a specific attack or something on a mob, and I ate lunch. I have a toy robot I got when I was five or so, he would lift his hand for a function, then drop it. Years later when I wanted to beef up my tracking skill, I added a stick on his hand and a nail or something poking down, he would essentially be able to press a key every 10 seconds or so. |

+2 Internets | This reminds me of my favorite Simpsons episode: Homer: Wait, I know: [types] vent gas. [reads screen] "Pressure too high?" "Tank must be shut down manually?" [to drinking bird] Oh, stupid bird! I never should have put you in charge! [strangles it a bit] Oh, who am I kidding? It's all my fault! [the bird nods] I've got to call the plant and warn them! [grabs phone, but his fingers are too fat to dial one key at a time] Operator: The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now. Homer: [screams] Aah! |
