+3 Internets | The Saga of Ryzom Stumbled into The Saga of Ryzom from the WoW "webcam" site. It looks kinda funky, and I can imagine that this game would seriously fuck with my head when stoned. Does anyone know anything about it or know of a good early review? |

| I just applied to the beta because I'm so depressed I'm not in WoW. I don't know a thing about the game, except the email said 'welcome young homin' so, I guess that's a creature or something. *shrug*

Very complex had to do all sorts of mining and gathering etc, wasnt too fond of the combat system seemed kinda boring. Stopped playing cause my computer couldnt really handle it im using a pos atm |

| Having worked on Ryzom (worked, not played. And that was 2 years agoà), I can probably shed a bit more light. Yep, "homin" does refer to hominid. It's not Planet of the Apes, but close: your racial choice are between various hominids that are modeled in practice from apes (and stereoptypified real cultures/nations). No, you cannot play Humans (although you can meet them). All this takes place on a completely vegerable world. No ground at all - your "ground" is simply the thick bark of the local 2-km thick branch/root that tie together. Wonderful to make "dungeons" deep into half rotting branchs, full of creepy things (no, not creeps). The myths and story of the origins of the world are supposed to be slowly discovered as the game progress. That's why you can't be human (they do know the true story, after all). All in all, a terribly weird setting. We had this original "evil" faction you could get into. Think cyborgs, without the technology/metal bit. You could put symbiotes in your body to enhance yourself, then even start to remove limbs/organs and grafts other things (usually plant weird lifeforms). As you'd lose your hominidity, trading off your identity for power, you'd become outcast. Insanely more powerful, but always PvP enabled (you're an affront to all civilisation). Alas, was dropped (pity, the "home" zone for those outcast was a nightmare. Think of getting into Plane of Hate in original/Kunark era, except that this is the home city of the outcasts who would be geared like full Time eqpt compared to you. And there's full PvP in there). Alas, was dropped early on ![]() The magical system was something extremely simple to get to, and extremely time-consuming to get proficient at (in-game, not as skill player). Then it got dumbed down early on. Don't know if some of the concepts I had pushed early have resurfaced either. |
