| I admit that I played SW:G for 90 days. Made Master Commando and all SP's used on like day 47. I ran around did a ton of missions, wacked Krayts a plenty, participated in the Galactic War as an Imperial etc..etc... The game just simply 'ends'. Unless you are Jedi bound the game just simply peeters out real fast. My last day in game was Dec 14, 2003 and I havent looked back. It was 'fun' in the beginning, but there is absolutely no content or advancement to keep you going (unless you want to be a Jedi). Ill stay with EQ until another game around that can move me away from EQ. Personally EQ still has some life in it for me. WoW might pull me away, but it is going to have to be pretty amazing or many friends move to it. |

+14 Internets | I have a friend who is on the last step to becoming a Jedi. Listening to him tell me about it at work is quite painful, in a sympathetic sense. When the process is so goddamned bad you will have a friend join the other faction and BUY a base just so you can invade and destroy it to save time... That's bad. In case you haven't heard about the Light Saber thing, that was apparently real bad too -- a rare drop you need to farm (sound familiar?) is required to make the light saber, which had a high chance of failing on creation (thus destroying the part). GG SoE. Excellent. |

SWG's come to FFXI...the bullshit stories they tell about that game would be enough to make me want to firebomb Lucasarts...talk about a company that turned out some quality stuff i.e X-Wing, Tie Fighter...that devolved into fucking shitty games and dont get me started on the movies ep. 1 & 2...maybe Lucas had a stroke around 1999...

+2 Internets | SWG is not going to go away anytime soon. They have a few things going for them: the first being a massive amount of people new to the MMORPG genre. These people don't realise how terrible a game it is, so think it is the best game on the market. Secondly, graphics that are overwhelming praised, and rightly so. As much as people say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, alot of people do. Lastly, the fan base is overwhelmingly strong...even after redoing the original movies to make them worse and putting out two lackluster prequels, the movie and anything assosciated with it is still considered an instant hit. The one thing going against it is that it is a terrible MMORPG, which is what we all here value. Our customer profile is very different then that of the typical SWG player, so what we think about the game really doesn't matter. If the game had to stand on its own merits as a MMORPG, it would be also going into its "sunset" along with Earth & Beyond. But the "living and breathing in the Star Wars Universe" factor will keep the game laboring on for at least 2 more years. If rumors of the expansion being a twitch game are true, they are kicking themselves in the ass again, as they are switching the targeted market to something different once more, alienating the older fans of the original trilogy this time. Since SOE has some of the worst corporate strategists I have ever heard of, it wouldn't surprise me. You probably will see server consolidations a few times before they close their servers down. That's why today, SOE announced that the SWG forums are once again open to the public. Nah, SWG isn't going away. It's going to merge with AC2 to create the worst game of all time. Asherons Galaxy! Come explore vast regions of endless polygons, a monotony broken only by the occassionally Legendary NPCs, like Han Solo, and Darth Vader. Listen to Han talk to Chewbacca endlessly in the exact same 4 sentence conversation day after day! Then head out to the fields to kill (or shoot) rats, snakes, stormtroopers, more rats, more stormtroopers, then die to an AT-ST only to damage most of your gear! What's that? You don't like Cloning or the fact we spent months building this system? Okay we'll remove it! Especially since Episode 2 really fucked up that concept for our game. What's that? You've heard about our how each character has a totally UNIQUE path to becoming a Jedi? Yes, all you need to do is grab a bottlenecked item and that will tell you what Class you will be forced to play. Even if that Class is something you don't want to play, you can look foward to grinding XP in at least 5-6 more Classes. It is so fucking unique! Whatever happened to accountability folks?

| Earth and Beyond I know nothing about, but SWG I can comment on. I led, alongside my wife, a HUGE multi server player organization on the order of thousands of members (toward the begining... if you were there you remember). It's absolutely correct to say the game just "ends." I had some folks who took over the PA (PA = guild, though really this was a little different... hard to explain) when I left, but about two months after that pretty much everyone else was gone, and it shut down. IF they have the common sense to make space combat twitch based, AND they make it decent, it will survive on the SoE back burner for a little while. I couldn't even begin to guess how long, but I think it'll persist for a good minute. They're scrapping the entire jedi system and making it quest based from what I hear. Talk about 20/20 hindsight! At least the devs have at least *some* integrity. That PA I mentioned came up with probably about 200 seperate theories, and many derivitives of those 200 on how to become a jedi, and every single one of them ended up better than the reality of it. If they screw up jedi a second time, and botch the space expansion, they might as well just pull the plug because they're done. |
