| Dell 5150 or GeForce FX Go5200 Issues Anyone else having some severe video lag issues with either of these? I've tested my machine with several other games and it definitely seems contained to Everquest only. Was wondering if anyone has seen this and corrected the issue. Thanks

| Wow, that's too strange. I just got my brand new Inspiron 5150 laptop with the same video card last week, and I'm having some wacky issues with only EQ as well. And yes, the FX Go5200 is the mobile version of the video card. Basically, my issue is that the game goes into what I can only describe as "slow motion" mode every so often at odd spots. For example, running by myself through Oasis to an LDoN mission slowed the machine down to a crawl, especially whenever I could see the mountains in the background. However, the laptop ran full speed ahead (faster than my desktop even) during a 45 person raid into Plane of Fire with zero issues. That makes little sense to me. Any ideas? | Yes 1. Turn off all SoL models b. Turn off the spell effects/blah blah blah your dont need 2. Turn down you clip plane in zones the "slow down" happens in and see if that makes a diffrence. 3. Install DX 9.0b ( make sure your running ver. B) 4. Play with your vid card settings, make sure Anti Aliasing and AF are OFF. Not set to program controlled, but OFF Period. Sounds like you are having either a DX problem or a bandwith issue with the video card, or both |

Is it only happening in old world zones or does it happen in PoP/Luclin etc as well? Do you have mip mapping turned on or off? High quality or performance on video card? Newest version of video drivers? It is definatly an issue with video. Are you running the 64mb mobile or the 128?

| 64 meg is as high as you can go with the 5200 from Dell. You have to go for the ATI card for 128 megs, and you can only get that card in the super expensive laptop(s). The problem seems to be at its worst in old world zones such as Oasis, Nro, and East Commonlands. However, those are the only ones that I've visited on the laptop so far. PoK seems to run perfectly. PoTranq is fine, but it gets flakey when I go into the tunnel with the port in stones to Tactics, Sol Ro, etc. Like I said, PoFire is fast fast fast. Bazaar with 500+ traders is just silly it's so smooth. So it seems as though the problem is related to certain zone geography somehow. I can have 150 characters on my screen at once and I don't miss a beat. A rock in Oasis grinds me to a halt. It's completely bizarre. Yes, I did turn Mip Mapping off, and it didn't seem to help at all, so I turned it back on. And just for comparison's sake, my 128 meg GF4 in my PC slows way down in the Bazaar. The GF FX in the laptop has no issues there. |

| It definitely seems to be an issue with EQ only and has nothing to do with the performance of the card. I can turn Medieval Total War all the way up at 1600x1200 and run perfectly smooth. Same thing with WC3. It is, without a doubt, an issue with EQ. People started reporting it in late Dec/early Jan

| Actually, the FX5200 is a pretty mediocre card. Typically scores around 5500 on 3DMark 2001. GeFroce3 Ti's usually did 6000-8000, GeForce4's were easily 11k+, and FX5600 non-Ultras score around 10k. They do have Ultra versions that might score a bit higher, but I'm sure that's not what is in your laptop. Also, |

| Good news and bad news. good news is that I've fixed the situation and can now run EQ at 1600x1200 with 0 slow down whatsoever. It's great. Bad news is that the problem seems to be DirectX 9. I have tested this with 3dmark03 and 3dmark2001. 2001 uses Directx 8 and 03 uses 9. With 8, I get 50 frames per second nearly constant at 1600x1200. With DirectX 9 I get 4 - 10 fps. So, DirectX 9 + Mobile cards = problem atm it seems.

The FX5200 is indeed a weak ass card, and the mobile version even more. If you bought a Dell laptop (such as the 5150), you should have bought the i8600 with the M10Pro 128mb and Pentium-M processor. That's a kick as machine. Yag.
