You can't. The "video card" is integrated onto the mainboard of the laptop. There's no replacement or add-on card you can buy.

That's why I tell people, unless you absolutely need the portability, laptops fucking suck. And dear God, if something goes wrong out of warranty, just throw the piece of shit away. There's no fixing them.

It cracks me up how people are buying laptops over desktops not for the portability, but because of the size. Yeah, you do that and realize what a fucking mistake you made when you end up dumping a cup of coffee all over it. A $15 PC keyboard is way cheaper than a $1500 laptop.

I was getting ready to buy a laptop but for some reason my computer was having trouble with the order page so i went over to a friend's house to say adios for the fall. As i talked to him he told me he bought a laptop with the exact same specs i was looking at and he showed me Unreal Tournament 2k3. All I can say is after watching him play for about 20 seconds there was no fucking way i was ever going to buy a laptop. Thank God Windows fucked up my order from earlier that day.

You really shouldn't buy a laptop thinking your'e going to game on it much. You'll probably be fine with EQ though.

If you really want to buy a gaming laptop, my advice would be to get some lube first. Bring your checkbook.

You'd be better off building a fully wireless custom Mini-ATX box, and cart that around. You'd be able to get pretty much all the perfomance of a desktop if you plan it right. Did I mention the new Athlon 64s are cold as a witches teat?

I have a Medion laptop (German Company) with an Athlon FX 3000 and an ATI radeon 9600 mobility, DX 9.0B and EQ runs perfectly fine as all games.

Besides that ATI just launched the 9700 moblity that is even more powerfull....

There are VERY powerful laptops out there. As tatiana pointed above, Dell has released their Inspiron XPS: Prescott 3.4 Ghz, 1gb RAM, 800 FSB, ATI 9700 mobile (benchmarks like a desktop ATI 9600XT 128mb), Screen widescreen 1920x1200.

Gaming on a laptop is indeed possible, plus you gain portability for those who need it.

Drawback? those high end laptops do get pricy.

That is not a fucking laptop. It uses a desktop processor, and a Prescott of all things. If it even has a battery, it wouldn't run for a half hour on it. It also runs hotter than the fires of hell and probably weighs ten pounds. It's just a small desktop case with an integrated display.

The battery on those top-end laptops is more less one hour if heavy tasks apply, or hour and a half if browsing internet, word proccessing, etc. And yes, they are large, heavy and hot, of course they are. A Ferrari runs hot too. We're talking about top performance here.

Or you can alternatively get a Centrino P-M 1.7 (a laptop exclusively dessigned proccessor by Intel), which benchmarks barely a 20-25% lower than a P4 3.0 Ghz while delivering much lower heat and over 3 hours of battery life. Not bad uh?

Open your eyes, gaming on good laptops is a reality. I know first hand.

Well, in general, I hate laptops, but my job is taking me on the road a lot, and I require the portability.

Anyway, I really don't care if the benchmarks say that my video card performs below that of something strung together by a homeless man using only cheap vodka and stale pasta. The fact of the matter is that the laptop runs basically all of my games perfectly well for me. I'm not looking to break speed records here or wave my massive FPS e-cock around. My issue is just with EQ slowing down to nothing while rendering the fucking desert. I didn't have that problem using an old TNT1 card over 3 years ago.

And I didn't get a chance to play with it last night, so I'll try DX8 tonight and see what happens.

And YOU CANNOT UPGRADE THEM.

They may run fine for today's games, but what about 2-3 years down the road? It'll perform mediocre at best and guess what? You now have a $3500 mediocre gaming laptop.

I end up buying a whole new computer every 3 years anyway. I just happen to have a higher bankroll, and i like being able to play EQ on my recliner while watching my big screen TV instead of in my basement on my 20 inch TV or whatever.

And no, it's really not practical to set up a desktop in yer living room.

As for it being a desktop not a laptop when you stick huge processors in them and that if you try to run it off batteries it will use them up in no time, so what? When do you not have access to a wall outlet anyway? Or a car lighter port? The only time I can see not having access to power is on a plane, but i'd imagine most people don't do a ton of flying and if they do they can bring two batteries anyway.

I don't really see yer arguments working, unless you are on a budget, in which case that's not my problem.

(BTW they own for LAN parties too)

Heh, actually many airlines have plugs for laptops in business class and the odd one has some in coach. Every airport, bus terminal, train station, and random cafe (etc) that I have had to find an outlet in (for a laptop) had one that was readily accessible, so battery life is really a minor issue.

[edit]Image not showing up:
http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/...0-5200-15.html[/edit] **May have to hit refresh once for image to show up.

Personally I use a 5600 Ultra and a 5950 Ultra. So never even used a 5200 before. I went straight from ti4200 to 5600U.

Well, I rolled back to DX8, and it didn't seem to do much of anything EQ wise. This is annoying.
