+17 Internets | Exactly how much of a budget are you on? It's a complete waste of money to buy a 64mb card. Generally I consider "on a budget" to mean picking cards from the mid-range. In this case, lowest one I'd go for would be the ATI 9600XT 128 for 160ish bucks. Though really the absolute best bang for your buck atm is the Nvidia 5900 128mb for 200-210, can't really beat its price/performance. Nvidia: 5700 128mb - $150 5900 128mb - $200-210 5950u 256mb - $405 ATI: 9600XT 128mb - $160-175 9800 128mb - $260 9800Pro 128mb - $300 9800XT 256mb - $440 |

| Keep in mind, both ATI and Nvidia will be coming out with a completely new generation of cards (R420 and NV40, respectively) in a couple of months, so I'd advise waiting even if you don't plan on buying a "top-of-the-line" card, as the new ones will most likely result in at least a moderate price job in the older models. Also, as a general rule, while some of the Nvidia cards are good deals right now, they are only really a good value if you are going to be playing current games on them, not new fully-DX9 games. The GeForce FX cards have a 4 x 2 pixel-pipe configuration, instead of the full 8 pipes on the Radeon 9700 and 9800 series, which results in poor DirectX9 performance with the Nvidia cards. This is something that is expected to be corrected with the new NV40 family of GPU's, but that still leaves the current offerings from Nvidia at a disadvantage. Personally, I'd say the best value right now is the 128MB 9800pro. Hopefully the release of the newer Radeons will push this card into the $200-ish range.

+17 Internets | Bullshit, Nvidia runs DX9 just fine now. Just look at the plethora of newer benchmarks out there. Nvidia and ATI are pretty much neck and neck performance wise - some games one is better, other games the other is better. That includes DX9 games. http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/112/9/ http://www.gamingnexus.com/Review.asp?ID=390&page=3 http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...view/page6.asp You really can't go wrong with either company right now. |

+17 Internets | And actually right now I'm trying to figure out which card I should buy for HDTV shit, but I just can't decide. You've got the *one* Nvidia card that finally has stuff tailored to it, the leadtek 5950ultra 256mb for 405. Then you've got ATI AIW 9800 128mb for about 340... arrrrrrrrrrgh. |
