| ya its much better to get everything handed to you on a silver platter and not have to work or be the first to try something, after the point of a game is get to the end with a little work as possible so using as many strat guides and cheat codes as you can find is almost always sure to give you a better overall experience.. oh wait.. thats not true at all! And how can you not be behind people, you play a communist version of the game where everyone is equal no matter their abilities, the lvl 1 white mage isnt behind the lvl 70 one at all right? bull You're making no sense, Square isn't forcing you to read cheat guides or accept help from higher level players. If the fact that someone else has a higher level character in a game than you do pisses you off, it's time to quit video games and go see a shrink. |

| I feel the same way about FFXI being released late here, i'll just express it differently. If i'm playing some single player game or a small scale multi-player (diablo for example), then i could care less if someone is already beaten the game or gotten ahead of me. i'm playing the game for fun. something on the scale of EQ or FFXI is different. I'm playing with thousands of other ppl. I want to be one of the best and one of the firsts to kill or accomplish what the game has to offer. That's how i enjoy a mmorpg. If you question that, then you must also question your own reasons, because i will not condemn anyone for playing mmorpg's simply for fun or as a hobby. FFXI already being played for 1 year was a big factor in me not buying it. There are other reasons, but had it been released in the states at the same time, I might have bought it. If i want to play a game for fun that thousands of ppl have probably beaten already, i'll go buy a ps2 game. That's why i have one sitting next to my tv. For me mmorpg is a competition. Getting to the top content first and becoming the most powerful player of a particular class are my goals. They don't have to be yours, but they are mine. |

Adjusted to the estimated 2003 average ticket price of $6.03. Inflation-adjustment is mostly done by multiplying estimated admissions by the latest average ticket price. Where admissions are unavailable, adjustment is based on the average ticket price for when each movie was released (taking in to account re-releases where applicable). This is the WRONG way of doing this in SO MANY WAYS. First off, recessions, depressions, gluts and booms sculpt the economy, altering budgets of people before they even decide to go see a movie or not. Setting some "average ticket price" is ridiculous. Inflation doesn't scale LINEARLY. Last I checked, movie ticket prices aren't locked to the economy and they aren't traded on the commodities exchanges. This method clearly makes older films worth more, and newer films worth less. Back when gone with the wind was #1 tickets were a fraction of $6.03, whereas I know people who've paid $20 to see matrix on an IMAX screen. Besides, this ignores DVD/VHS and merch sales. Something tells me noone went out and bought the Gone With the Wind PS2 game. What we need are the numbers of admissions scaled to today, with the numbers of any merch scaled to today, and I assure you that Titanic, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars will come on top easily. I'm just assuming, but just from figuring the # of tickets purchased from that lame chart, you can then see that "most popular" movie and "most $ grossing film at the box office" are not the same film. As soon as you boil the numbers enough, it becomes less about the most money making film and the blelbelbealbaleblaebllaeb | |

| Lineage is "indirect pay". The PC-Baang (the Taiwanese Cybercafes) pay a flat fee to allow their IP address to play the game. Anyone playing from one of these cybers can play without having to subscribe. Instead, they pay the per-hour fee of the baang, and that's all from their PoV. The Baang pay their global fee to attract customers. If their customers can't play Lineage (or any of the similar priced games) there, they're going to go somewhere else. If you aren't playing at a registered baang, then you do need to pay for your account (which will work anywhere then, even in the baangs... where you pay twice, in fact). |
