WoW Beta signup announcement

Quote:
As many of you know, we are currently conducting an internal Alpha test for World of Warcraft. Our goal for this Alpha test is to provide the best possible experience for players when the Beta launches in early 2004.

In order to accelerate the testing process, we recently allowed a small group of external testers to play the game. During this process, a collection of files was leaked to the Internet. While these files contain alpha content from the game, they are not fully playable and therefore do not convey the experience that World of Warcraft will provide when it is released.

We are currently investigating this matter and will take serious action against those involved.

As always, we appreciate the interest and enthusiasm that players around the world have for World of Warcraft, and we look forward to delivering a massively multiplayer game unlike any you have ever experienced. Until then, we ask that you refrain from sharing any content that doesn't come directly from Blizzard Entertainment.

Lastly, we would like to announce that sign-ups for the World of Warcraft Beta test will begin at the end of this month. Stay tuned to www.blizzard.com for further details.

Translation, beta in february

Is Kinerry one of those fanboys I heard about on 60 minutes that the companies pay to hype their products on various messageboards/channels? Just curious

I'm glad they addressed the alpha leak, the way it happened, and the actions they are taking. I hate when companies just sweep that kind of stuff under the rug or use it to announce 'new' delays.

Oh, and Beta Sign-up announcement is great news too!

Holy shit, the replies to that post are fucking scary. I seriously think some of these people will kill themselves when they, like the vast majority of the people who apply, don't get into the beta. None of them seem to have even the vaguest idea of how things work in the mmorpg world.

As a cool feature, the beta signup should have a sniffer that detects the existance of a maphack for SC/WC or a trainer for D2. Detection of said program automatically bars you from beta application of WoW. That will immediately remove thousands of punk ass lamers from the pool ;p

That would remove all of the b.net posters from their signup...

haha, they should've expected they would have one of the blizzard fanbois break NDA and leak anything possible if they recieve a testing spot. *shrug* just happened about two weeks earlier than it otherwise would've.

Someone's ass is banned from all blizzard games hereafter tho, so.

It's pretty obvious the Alliance will outnumber the Horde by a good amount. Same reason that Albion was the most populated realm in DAOC. When it comes down to it, most people would rather play humans than wierd looking trolls or taurens. Throw in those badass night elves and gnomes in with the Alliance, and I think you could be looking at a 2:1 ratio for realms.
