Which is why the dark team on Vallon/Tallon, and the evil team on Sullon severely outnumbers the other teams.

No, hang on....

I was trolling around bored at work today and found a few polls from within the last two weeks. One was on wowvault.ign.com and the other was .... hmm, now I can't remember. In any case, I was curious what the results were, and put in my vote (alliance, gnome), and was surprised that the wowvault one was 51%/49% and the other one was 55%/45%. To be honest, I expected more of a slant one way or the other (and both of them had hundreds of responses, it wasn't a case of 2 votes for each =p)

Using EQ as a model for a realm-based MMORPG is quite flawed, especially an EQ pvp server, which is quite different from a normal population. The Zeks basically consist solely of jackasses and griefers, so you're going to see mainly ogres and dark elves etc... the powergamer classes that assholes identify with.

It's all part of a new type of racial profiling that I've been advocating, and it's probably more accurate than racial profiling in RL, because certain types of people will choose a race that they most closely identify with. Why are all barbarians morons? Why are all halflings in EQ played by flakes? Why were 50% of the assholes I met in EQ ogres, and the other 50% gnome necros? I don't think it's just a coincidence.

So when Wow comes out, the Zekkers will likely join the Horde, but they're insignificant compared to the size of the casual gamer population and what they decide to do. I'm willing to bet that most of the time, Joe newb isn't going to want to play as a troll or undead.

*taking into account that 80% of high end characters were created at a time when exp penalties applied, no luclin graphics, highly customizable face - etc, and faction mattered*

dark elves = can choose lots of classes, ultravision, coolest looking armor/casters

ogres = can cap str/sta plus frontal stun immunity, infravision
barbarians = strongest race that isn't evil aligned, also has no exp penalty (why there is so many barb shamans)

halflings = 5% exp bonus

gnomes = all around good race, but i definitly see more erudite/DE/iksar necros

and dr00ds were the jerks back when as chanters are now, IMO

thank you sit down

If I remember right, barbarians do have an XP penalty.

Of a whole 5%.

(compared to 20% for ogres, 40% for regenerating races)

I could be way off, but I was thinking that people would lean toward classes they haven't played much before. How many of us have played as humans, elves, dwarfs, and Gnomes verses how many have played as undead, trolls, or orcs. Personally I think Horde will make a strong showing, maybe not 50/50, but not a blowout either.

Someone's ass is banned from all blizzard games hereafter tho, so.
No, probably someone's mom is banned from all Blizzard games since they registered and were only 14.

I am probably going to expect alliance to be significantly bigger, since casual gamers tend to be "good". You may see a lot of EQ types and hardcore gamers choosing to avoid the casual gamers, and all go Horde though. Regardless, numbers might beat skill in mass PvP in WoW.

Doubt it, unless you're talking like 200 vs 8. There was a guild on my DAOC server (Guinevere) called Rel Por. This guild of like 12 people would regularly roll up on forces 5 times their size and completely own them.

Same thing in Planetside (for the first week we played it, and then all cancelled our accounts), In Virtue: our little outfit of 30 was the highest ranked outfit on Johari. We had more kills and points than 500 member zerg outfits.

(Of course, we eventually lost the war because 30 people can't do shit against 2,000 and Planetside was ass anyway. Maybe it's improved, but I doubt it.)

And what do skills and numbers have to do with a game with which we barely know how its going to play out?

For all we know rl skills are meaningless in this game and everything is random and numbers will always win...

Of course chances are that won't be true but who cares if 12 rolled over 60 if that gameplay is different from here!

Just to clarify, XP penalties/bonuses in EQ are as follows:

Penalties:
Barbs--5%
Ogres--15%
Trolls--20%
Iksar--20%

Bonuses:
Halflings--5%

Warriors still have their approximately 10% XP bonus, and Rogues still have a bonus as well (5 or so %, I believe).

No other penalties or bonuses.
